Lots of misunderstandings and friction in this coming of age story with a hint of romance, maybe. The POV alternates between the two main characters, one male and one female, who are neighbors, but with very different families and lifestyles. An interesting read that includes discussions about values, stereotyping, and looking beneath the surface qualities of a person.

The truth is I saw the movie first, so the novel felt subdued to me. Having said that, I still loved the book. It's a great coming-of-age story, told from two different perspectives, which adds to it.
