While there was a lot to enjoy about this book: the descriptive prose, the Celtic mythology, Fia's character growth, Irian - it felt a good 200 pages too long. I often skimmed through pages that felt repetitive and unnecessary to the main storyline. I also have to admit I found the lack of queer characters among the Folk a little odd. Honestly, any book that only has cishet characters these days feels odd to me. Still, an enjoyable romantasy but not a series I'm likely to continue.

if you’re looking for a romantasy that breaks the mold, make sure to steer clear of this one. despite its interesting premise, it remains painfully uninspired and quickly squanders all potential. also i don’t know why its close to FIVE HUNDRED pages long.
I wanted to love this book. It was good until it was just okay. Gets a little repetitive with her going back a fourth but the beginning and end are great.

This book was fair in every single aspect. It was neither awe inspiring nor loathsome, it was just fair. It was entertaining, sure, but it was nothing extraordinary. I would recommend this book to someone looking for a captivating story as it does show great promise for future books.
