Everything I love, good slow burn romance, oldest daughter, cats, books, spooky magic, and a beautiful haunted house!

I really enjoyed this modern Gothic tale! As someone who grew up in a small southern town with plenty of metaphorical ghosts, I really connected with the setting in this one. Harrow's writing is utterly gorgeous and visceral, and I loved the themes of found homes and found families. The protagonist, Opal, is an unlikely hero, but her flaws feel so familiar and endear you to her in unexpected ways.
