I listened to the audiobook version of this without reading much of a summary, and I was pretty disappointing. I knew from the beginning that Julian was a red flag and I had dread while reading this one. I did like the exploration of her relationship with her sister and the previous wives.

A SOLID ENDING TO A DRAWN OUT MIDDLE BUT IT WAS REWARDING. THE WRITING WAS SO GOOD AND DETAILED THE CHARACTERS, EMOTIONS, AND MOVEMENT WELL. I THOUGHT THE EMPHASIS ON HER INVESTIGATING HER HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY HUSBAND WENT ON A BIT TOO LONG BUT THE ENDING WAS WORTH IT WHEN SHE FOUND HER POWER.

So, so boring. Almost DNF'D, but kept plugging away.

The middle part of the book captivated my attention, but it was a long slow journey to get there and then ended fairly abruptly. It took a while before the story even approached the premise mentioned in the summary. The book also went back and forth on what genre it wanted to be. The pop culture references felt shoehorned in and took me out of the story because it was too online. I felt the dialogue was also often stilted and written with an unrealistic tone, and there were many instances where the author's own voice poked through too much, diminishing the identity of the character. This book was most interesting in the stories of the previous wives and Advika was outshone in her own book.

I don't like to DNF a book, so I powered through this one--but man, was it difficult. First off, I did not understand the attraction to Julian at all. It may be because I have a huge dislike of May-December relationships, or because I did not find his character charming at all. The amount of red flags that Advika acknowledges and then chooses to ignore is staggering. I found her annoying as well; I wished I could yell sense into her through the pages.
I didn't even find her escape at the end heroic, when the entire relationship was a huge, stupid mistake to begin with. Who marries a person without knowing their background at all? Especially when that person is easily researchable.
I'm also nitpicking at this point, but the pop culture references in this book were poorly done. All it did was make me cringe.

4.5/5 because there was something I didn’t like about the ending

Ended up liking it more than dava shastri’s last day. At first I was very creeped out by the way Julian spoke but I ended up not being able to put the book down
