Lots of characters and time jumps. Every time something would happen it would flash back for 5 pages

Intrigue, murder and mayhem converge when seven besties join Hollywood star/nice girl Katie Barstow and her new husband David Hill on their honeymoon safari in the Serengedi. The year is 1964. Race is divisive in the U.S., the Cold War is on, many countries in Africa are trying, with mixed success, to emerge from the yoke of colonialism and safari goers are becoming more interested in shooting animals with cameras rather than guns. Bohjalian knows how to grab the reader's attention and not let it go until the last page is turned. I listened to this one and the actors do an excellent job as well.

3.5, not my favorite by this author, who I adore!

Old Hollywood glam meets ‘And then there were none’ meets African safari. The characters are likeable and interesting and the setting is so cool. The Russian storyline/kidnapping fell short for me.
