I really enjoyed reading this. Set in the world of magic the gathering, which has some pretty cool world building already built in, the characters had good chemistry, the story was intriguing, and it was a fun read. Is it my favorite Sanderson story? No. Is it my favorite of the mtg stories I've read. Yes. And I've read more than one.

don't know much about magic: the gathering, but this was fun to read!
That was so fun and entertaining ! Such a shame it's so short, I can already see Sanderson masterfully enlarging this world and these characters. I want more!
I was sold on this being fantasy horror and I'm disappointed. Instead, I got one chapter of horror followed by the typical Sanderson main character - a dude with "problems" who just wants to be left alone and nap.
It's a problem if you market horror and a chapter in the middle of the book is a main character sleeping.
Other than that, it was alright, I guess. Certainly not Shadows of Silence in the Forest of Hell.

Do I even need to preface this by saying that Sanderson is a genius and anything he writes is a thing of beauty to covet and cherish? No? Okay, good. This novella is short but it still has all the elements you'd want in a full-fledged book. There is a plot, there are morally ambiguous good and bad guys, there is a back story, there are multi-verses, there is immense power in different "Entities". There is suspense, shocking revelations, hilarity, great dialogue and all in all, an enthralling story that reels you in from the very beginning.
Another great read by Sanderson!
