I did like this book even though I hadn't heard of most of the books that she mentions in her book.

I can identify with being a reader by passion (I'd love to be one by profession), and with double booking (I'm currently quadruple booking), and with the worry about having enough books to make it through a trip. However, my personal reading list, and this woman's, have so little to do with each other that I wasn't able to enjoy this book as much as a friend thought I might.

An ode to books by a book lover for those who are passionate about books. I'm just not sure anyone else will "get" it.

I really enjoyed reading this book...I added a couple more books to my to-read list. It was nice to see I'm not the only person who reads multiple books at one time!
It was also interesting to understand why I can't make a specific to-read list to follow. My book selection is driven by my mood, my environment and multiple other factors.

"I can no more stop reading than I can stop eating, even if the latter would be more beneficial for my thighs."

I would put this somewhere between a 3 and a 4. It was not just an overall nice read, but most importantly, I came across authors and books that I might not have tried out otherwise.

I just could not get in to this book. On the dust cover the author talks about the importance of letting yourself stop reading a book if you don't like it, so that's what I did.

I saw this is in a great bookstore in Rehoboth Beach, DE on the shelf and thought it deserved a perusal. After the perusal, I determined it needed to be one of my vacation purchases. I read part of it that weekend, in fact.
The two major reasons I really like this book are simple: the author and her relationship with reading was comfortingly familiar to mine and all of the book references she makes (many with mini-reviews) is a whole source of exploration for future books in itself.

This book was as much about the effect reading books has on a person as about the books that the author read. I loved her stories about her life and the interaction with books, even if the books weren't working for her. I think the entry I found most compelling was about A Million Little Pieces, a book featured in Oprah's Book Club and then later shown to be a false memoir. In this case, the author was able to extrapolate from reading about the demons discussed by the writer of the book to her own husband's struggles with an internal rage and she was able to reflect and analyze things differently and reconnect and recommit to her marriage. Proving once again that it is as much what we bring to a book as what we take away from a book that counts.
