I didn’t like it much at first, but it greatly improved once Sonoko showed up.

4.5/5. I loved everything about this book except for the ending. It's possible that the ending was meant to be unsatisfying. But other than that, I loved this book.

Although the plot was simple, the main character's inner turmoil and conflict made the book captivating. I definitely reccomend it to anyone who likes lgbt related literature and/or historical fiction.

Mishima's mind is...fascinating. But he puts into words feelings about gender and desire that I felt and still feel even in the 21st century. Some things about the gay experience never change. Desperately needs another translation.
