This book takes a deep dive into the language of lived experiences and emotions that humans share, for the main reason of being able to cultivate meaningful relationships with those around you. Strong emphasis of having courage and being vulnerable (when appropriate) so that you can have true and close relationships built on trust and mutual understanding.

I appreciated the audio book version I listened to from the library - she expounds a little and repeats definitions that are important or tricky to comprehend with only hearing once, and it read more like a podcast. That being said though, I did also borrow the physical copy so I could look and review the content right in front of me and take my time.

I took a long time reading this one so I could take simple notes of the definitions of the 80+ emotions she discussed. I'm hopeful that this will help me explain emotions and experiences in a way my child can understand so she can learn and grow healthy relationships with others.

Brene Brown does it again! Always love her wisdom. I’m motivated to read it now after listening to the audiobook

I find a lot of the chapters quite eye opening and also really enjoyed how each chapter was a different group of emotions. I loved the way the author first explained the importance of an emotion and its role in our lives and then introduced the well thought out definition. It brings reason as to why we as the reader should put in the effort to remember that emotion. My only gripe with the book was that I wish it had more practical advice rather than just informing but it really does make you think while you’re reading. My favourite quote was about who should forgive depending on whether they hurt from a place of malice or ignorance. It really feels like it applies to a lot of experiences in life and it can be hard to accept that maybe you should give that person a second chance.
