Brene Brown does it again! Always love her wisdom. I’m motivated to read it now after listening to the audiobook

I find a lot of the chapters quite eye opening and also really enjoyed how each chapter was a different group of emotions. I loved the way the author first explained the importance of an emotion and its role in our lives and then introduced the well thought out definition. It brings reason as to why we as the reader should put in the effort to remember that emotion. My only gripe with the book was that I wish it had more practical advice rather than just informing but it really does make you think while you’re reading. My favourite quote was about who should forgive depending on whether they hurt from a place of malice or ignorance. It really feels like it applies to a lot of experiences in life and it can be hard to accept that maybe you should give that person a second chance.

3.8. An ambitious undertaking with some insightful nuggets of truth, but it read like a glossary (because it essentially is) that she’ll reference in future work. Each chapter is worthy of its own book, but she references other books/ studies that dive deeper

Literally an atlas, encyclopaedia, dictionary type book to explain the different emotions. The most inspiring parts were about specific definitions such as gratitude and the concept of near enemies (the near enemy of compassion is pity). First few chapters were easy to get through but it got slightly tiring to read later. The last chapter on near enemies was insightful and reminded me about what I usually liked about her books. If the book was written less like a dictionary and more prose, I think I would enjoy it a lot more.
An encyclopedia of sorts about emotions. It sounds basic, but really is profound. I've already pulled it out with a child that was flooded with emotion and it helped us both dig deeper about what was going on. I can see myself referring to it again and again.
The concept of "near-enemies" will stay with me. Whoa.
