The library wanted it back and I wasn't too absorbed. Might circle back someday, but I doubt it.

Nobody writes about ordinary everyday life the way Elizabeth Strout does, in all it's sadness, pain, joy and beauty. I loved every moment of reading this. Revisiting the characters from her previous books is also always such a delight.

The continuing saga of the Mainefolk felt decidedly different to me in this novel. All the usual cast of characters played a part: Olive Kitteridge, Lucy Barton and William, the Burgess Boys and their sister Susan, but the real focus was on Bob Burgess. I feel like I need to reread "The Burgess Boys" to re-examine the relationship between the brothers and their sister. One thing I liked immensely is that all the characters seem to have grown. They did not remain stagnant stereotypes of their younger selves. It's a perfect example of unrecorded lives.
