I’m a big fan of Elizabeth Strout’s writing. She gives her characters depth by simply writing about their day-to-day lives and interactions with others without a need to define them for the reader or to project her own judgements or morality onto them. This book, a continuation of the Lucy Barton series, sums up what Elizabeth Strout always seems to do: to highlight our common humanity and affirm each person as complex and significant in the lives of those they encounter and touch, and that being loved and loving others is ultimately enough.
