My expectations and the content of this book did not match. Instead of the murder mystery the book starts with looong descriptions of weather, old uninteresting towns and equally old people. It has a strong US point of view (e.g. driving somewhere to go for a short walk) and constantly repeats itself (e.g. Lucy thinks "Bob looks tired." Lucy says "Bob looks tired."). Also all people in this book seem incredibly rude to me and always simpy tell what is on their mind, not respecting anybody's privacy. Maybe this is supposed to be a point of the book and I missed it, but to me it felt like listening to a distant family member older than my grandma ramble about stuff they heard from a neighbor.

A cozy read with a smattering of devastating moments. Love a book that suddenly makes sense when you reach the last couple of pages and you immediately want to read it again now that you know what you know.

The writing sounded like a children’s book. Bob ran. Bob went to the store. Bob was sad. Feels like character traumas were used as “character development” for other people without ever actually talking about the effects the trauma had on the person aside from
explaining why they murdered someone. Basically at the end the characters were just like “oh they had severe sexual abuse as a child so I get why they murdered their mom but also I’m a bad person and I didn’t have anything bad happen to me and also everyone around me is a narcissist???? Idk I can’t even figure out what the point of the book was but if it was supposed to be a murder mystery I guessed it was the sister the first time she was introduced and the murder didn’t start until like 20% in and was resolved at like 75% so??????

Great read!!! It made me really want to read some of the other books in this series, including Olive kitteridge bc it won the Pulitzer.

This book was a beautiful insight to the importance of conversation and being there for your people. Bob burgess is an incredible example of being there for anyone who needs him regardless of the shit happening in his own life. He really is a sponge lol.

I couldn’t believe Lucy was remarrying her ex husband. Like I get it, but was it really the best move for her??? The world may never know.

Definitely would recommend this book :D
