This book was okay. It's written in dual timelines so that each alternating chapter is told by one of the sisters in present day and the other in the months leading up to her disappearance. I preferred the timeline that takes place over the course of 3 years because at least in that timeline, I was getting new information. I felt like Greer's perspective was stagnant; there's only so many ways you can say "we haven't found anything". The further along I went in Meredith's perspective, you start to see how the things people said don't line up with what actually happened. The lies and half-truths are exposed in Meredith's story, so I was basically shoving through Greer's chapters for most of the book. I'm ambivalent about the ending. I liked the relationship between the sisters and Greer's dedication to Meredith no matter what. But the kidnapper was smart enough to plan this elaborate scheme, but not smart enough to check the room where a woman's been held captive? That seems a bit...convenient.

Overall, I'm probably about middle-of-the-road in rating this book. It was engaging but not enthralling.

2.5 free Amazon first.

[Spoilers Ahead]

I was hooked for awhile with the mysterious happenings to the woman who seems to have it all. Her perfect rich and handsome husband promises her a life of ease and contentment but his scorned ex wife warns her about "what he's capable of" and then we never see her again in the story. What is he capable of? Well he spies on her because she has an affair because she's bored in her dream house without a day job and he works all the time. And that's it. That's the extent of her problems. She gets kidnapped and then we have to hear the endless droning of her sister narrating her search for her while whining about this feminist coffee shop owner who loves her but doesn't want to marry her or something? I'm not sure why this matters at all. He's a shit character, poorly written, and unrealistic. It's as if this book wanted to be two or maybe three separate stories but got all mixed together. The mystery aspect got me interested, the dramatic marital issues kept me reading, but the weird depressing sister non-romance? My god, it was rough.

Kept me guessing

I enjoyed this thriller more than I expected. She switched back and forth between two sisters as we solved the mystery. Trying to figure out the bad guys and the good guys was interesting. I will be looking for more books by Ninja Kent.

Captivating and excellent

Another great book by this author.

In the aftermath of Meredith’s disappearance from a grocery store parking lot, her sister, Greer, comes to suspect a few different possible people who could’ve abducted her, and while I had some guesses, too, it really could’ve been any of them. The story starts strong with a likable young woman who falls in love with a very rich older man who treats her like a princess while her sister is reasonably suspicious about the whole arrangement. The story alternates from Greer’s perspective starting from when Meredith goes missing as she uncovers things she didn’t know about her sister’s life and also from Meredith’s perspective starting from her wedding night and through to what happened in that parking lot. It’s a fairly quick read that is very easy to follow and held my interest all the way through.

The narration was also great.

It was exactly what you'd expect from a novel like this, but it was done reasonably well. Three stars.

This book was absolutely wonderful. Kept me guessing. A really quick read.

Page turner

After reading both of this author’s other books, I knew I would like the third and it did not disappoint.

3.5 stars to The Thinnest Air! 🌟 🌟 🌟.5

Minka Kent is a beloved author of my friend, Kendall’s, and The Thinnest Air is my first book by Kent.

Meredith Price considers herself lucky. She has been living a life of luxury married to her husband and living in a resort town. The catch: she’s gotten bored with it all, and then she vanishes into thin air.

When her car is found at a local grocery store, there is no sign of foul play. So did she choose to disappear, or was she abducted? Meredith’s sister, Greer, takes up the search, which lands her in some dark, seedy places.

The Thinnest Air is a great title with multiple meanings. This is a super quick and well-written read at less than 300 pages, and while it was a bit pat and predictable in places, there was a giant twist that shocked me! After that twist, however, the ending was more clipped than I would have liked. I just wanted more! Minka Kent clearly has immense talent for this genre, and I will most definitely be checking out her other books.

Thank you to Amazon Pub/Thomas & Mercer for the copy. The Thinnest Air will be published on July 1, 2018!

I recently found Minka Kent's books, and cannot believe how much I was missing out! I've made it a point to read everything she has out, and to be first on the list for everything new. (I get obsessive, what can I say?)

The Thinnest Air may not be the most unpredictable thriller you'll read, but it's definitely a compelling one. You will like and then dislike each character. You will question each character's motives, and then realize they're doing exactly what they should be doing. You will think you have it figured out (and be disappointed because it couldn't be that easy), and then you'll realize you had it all wrong, twice, maybe even three times. It's a fun ride, with all the who's done it, the who's helping and the who's heroic questions bouncing around in your head while you blaze toward the end.
