This is not the type of mystery that the reader could piece together and solve, since a lot of the clues involve characters finding hidden compartments and passageways, or the characters only share the information needed to solve the next puzzle as they're solving it - it's not a whodunnit in that way. But it's entertaining and I read it really fast to find out what would happen!

I purchased this series as a FairyLoot exclusive, and I have been dying to see what all of the craze is about.
"The Inheritance Games" follows Avery Grambs, the seemingly luckiest girl in the world. Avery has had a difficult life, but she is determined to keep her head down, work hard, and make it out of her town to make something of herself. Her whole life gets uprooted when she discovers that she has become the heir to Tobias Hawthorne's entire massive fortune. But Avery has no idea who Tobias is or why he left her his fortune. With a whole slew of Hawthornes who feel slighted at being cut out of the will, Avery has made some enemies. Can she uncover why she was left the fortune?
This was a really fast-paced and fun read. I loved the lighthearted mystery and all of the riddles presented throughout the book. It felt like the reader could play along with Avery to try and uncover what is really going on at the Hawthorne estate.
I really enjoy Avery as a character. She is so smart and independent. She may not be a Hawthorne, but she really fits into this world. I also love that she stays down to earth. Alot of teenagers who get massive wealth may find themselves unable to responsibly handle all of this money and power, but Avery stays true to who she is an does not seem to let the money change her.
I am hooked, and I cannot wait to continue this story and figure out what is going on.

Extremely enjoyable! I think putting the intended age range in perspective really helps you understand the writing style. It is a YA and about a teenager so some of the more juvenile themes & easily digestible writing makes more sense if you keep that in mind. I feel like plenty of people judge it for the style without accounting for the age range. I think that’s also why some of it was indeed predictable. But a lot of the twists were still surprising which I enjoyed.  However I still gave  it  a 3.75 instead of 4 because I think some of the relationships could’ve been developed better, and the emotions felt a little rushed for certain characters. Hopefully that’s more flushed out in the sequel books.

I totally predicted the Toby/Harry thing. The whole book I knew he had to be more than just an intro character. For a while I wasn’t sure if he was the grandfather who just faked his death, or the son, but still. Maybe it was predictable but idc it’s still a clever way to leave a cliff hanger. I also think Rebecca’s involvement was predicable, but I’m surprised she wasn’t MORE involved. I feel like we didn’t learn enough about her or her relationship with Thea and Emily. Or her obvious mental health issues. Hopefully we get more on that in future books. Also I’m sorry but Tobias Hawthorne is creepy as FUCK for all of this. Keeping track of a 6 year old he met once??? And she just happened to have the same birthday as the girl who died, so she orchestrated his whole damn will around it?? Like Jesus what a weirdo. The epilogue with cancer made me feel bad for him cuz he wasn’t sure he truly mattered to his grandfather too.

This book was one of my most anticipated reads of 2023. I pretty sure my hopes were way too high when it came to this book. Going into it I thought it was going to be like the hunger games but with chess and riddles. I was very wrong...

At the beginning I was supper disappointed, like I said I thought they were going to battle out for the money hunger games style. I didn't really feel that entertained. Once I got over the way too high expectations, I started to enjoy the book.

I really enjoyed the story. The main plot was super entertaining once you actually get into the book. I loved wondering and guessing along with the characters. I thought the author did a very good job making some of the characters that I felt should be snobby because they are rich snobby. I feel like money could really get to a person's head. Hopefully the money doesn't get to Avery.

The question of the day team Grayson or Jamieson.... To be % honest I am on the fence. I have a feeling I will know maybe by the last book but right now I have no idea. I low key am rooting for both of them.

Starting the second book right away!
