If there were a book that embodied the Taylor Swift song 'You Belong With Me', it would be this one. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if this book was inspired by that song, almost every single lyric applies and it has all the angst and 'not like other girl-isms' on lock. Anyway, this book left me exhausted and horribly nostalgic for my toxic high school sometimes boyfriend. I legitimately almost texted him you guys - be motherfuckin forewarned. Thankfully I have a handy file of reminders that he's a garbage person, but for those without that resource this book is a TRAP okay

This was a fantastic book. I loved the relationships between Reed and Nolan's dad as well as Nolan's relationship with Buck, Reeds dad. I also liked how the book took place over a span of 4 years and not just one year. We got to see both Reed and Nolan make mistakes, grow up and eventually realize what they each need/want. I cannot wait to read Going Long!

This was adorable. Thank you ❤️❤️

I really enjoyed this one! It is a slow burn for sure and we watch Reed mess up a lot as he is trying to find his way among the pressures of life and being a teenager. Nolan is learning how to stay true to herself amongst all the pressures of being a teenage girl and falling in love with a popular guy. I loved Nolan’s friends and watching her continue to find the confidence and support to stay true to herself amidst the bullying and self doubt about being good enough. I loved watching her stand up for herself and what was right time again as she tried to figure things out with boys and Reed. This story pulled me in from beginning to end and I couldn’t wait to keep reading and figure out what was going to happen next. I am super excited to start the next book in the series.

I was craving something different and this just hit the spot right.
Yes, even a 40-something yo mom with teen kids can enjoy full on YA drama and angst.
I was a little disappointed that “it continues in GOING LONG” but I’m looking forward to it as I’ve heard the preview and getting Reed’s PoV will be a plus.
I loved seeing Nolan grow into herself but she still has so much confidence issues especially with Reed (Reid ?)- and a lot of it is understandable considering their history. I love her circle of friends and her parents and Buck Johnson!

Lets just say I neglected a lot of my responsibilities while reading Waiting on The Sidelines. I couldn't get enough of it even with all the angst and insane amounts of drama I couldn't pull myself away. Although I have to admit it got to the point where I felt a little wiped out from all the drama but I was so emotionally invested in the main characters that I still kept on reading rooting for the two and hoping they figure things out.

The book is written around a four year time period. It starts off when Nolan and Reed are freshmen and ends in around their first semester in college. What I found confusing was keeping up with what period in time we were at. I basically used their ages to guess what grade they were in.

As far as the characters go I think Scott did a really good job in portraying teenagers. Nolan was not perfect she had her flaws, she succumbed to peer pressure, made bad decisions, but she also stood up for herself, was a good friend, and very bright all in one. And she just so happened to be in love with a boy who sent her on a roller coaster of a romance and heartbreak. Now we have Reed and ugh I just wanted shake some freaking sense into him at times, you know he is a good guy he values his friendship with Nolan but some of his actions just well lets just say he knew how to screw things up with Nolan pretty bad. Scott did a good job writing his character as well, he was Mr. Popular even before he walked through the HS doors thanks to his family being a legacy of sorts, anyways he is your typical raging hormonal teen and he made plenty of mistakes but all of that is part of growing up which is exactly what we saw him doing throughout the four year time span. There were also plenty of secondary characters and I found all of them to be very well developed and a few characters whom I would love to see get their own story.

As much as this book was about romance it was also about seeing two kids growing up and facing the challenges that are thrown at them during that stage in their life.

Overall I couldn't get enough of Nolan and Reed and I was very glad to see that the book didn't end in a cliffhanger but was also happy to see there is a book two. For some reason at the point in their life the book ended and with the history between the two characters I just see a lot more complications coming up before they have their happily ever after.

The Plot. I thought that the idea for this story was great and couldn’t wait to see how the rest of the book would turn out. For me, the book was way too long and drawn out. It seemed that there was just a lot of fluff added in and that the book was unnecessarily long. There was no real plot that I could tell or else there was no real climax. This book had no point to it. I felt like I was reading this long book about a girl who conformed to society and never stood up for herself. This book just didn’t do it for me and I was disappointed in how the book turned out.

Nolan. I don’t think that Nolan had any real qualities that I liked. She was just too much of a push over for me to appreciate her character. She just gave in and never stood up for herself. Some one in the book said her name was dumb and suddenly she hates her name and wishes it was different. Then some cute boy says she got her name a cool way and then she l-o-v-e-s her name. The back and forth of how she feels was just so confusing and annoying to read. I really didn’t like her character because she had no inner strength.

Reed. Reed was the most annoying character because of how he acted. I never got why Nolan liked him because there wasn’t anything special about him. He acted like every other boy out there and I didn’t like him. He also gave me whiplash with his feelings about Nolan. He wasn’t man enough to stand up for himself and do what he wanted to do. He had so many weakness and not many strengths.

Overall. This book had it’s up and it’s downs. Unfortunately for me this book had more downs than ups. I liked the idea but not the follow through so this book got pretty low scores.

This is one of my favorite books, I loved the audiobook as well. Ginger Scott has become one of my fav authors, and will be reading more of her work.
