This is the second in the Rizzoli and Isles series and finds them chasing a copy-cat killer that has taken his inspiration from the Surgeon, the killer from the first novel. But then things take a turn for the worse as the Surgeon himself escapes and joins in the game. This is an excellent and gripping page turner that follows on well from the first in the series. It is a little predictable as is often the case with this kind of book but this doesn't detract from the story, and let's be honest you don't always want something new and unusual, sometimes a familiar good ol' murder thriller is just what you want. And this is exactly that.

3.5⭐️. This was good, but the ending was a bit underwhelming. While I love the gruesome imagery the author creates and the level of detail when talking about the various procedures being performed, the climax of the book was just over so quickly. It was too easy and I wish it would have been drawn out more.

Jane Rizzoli moved into the spot of main character in this book and it was interesting to see how she was dealing with the aftermath of what happened to her in the first book. I think the author did a good job portraying the mental, emotional, and physical trauma someone might experience as a result of a trauma like that.

This is the second book in the Rizzoli and Isles series. It again is told mostly from the point of view of Jane Rizzoli, although this time we are actually introduced to Maura Isles (though only briefly) - she was missing from the first in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it did keep me guessing - I was continuously trying to figure out who The Dominator was (though I was nowhere close to right once it was revealed). Gerritsen does a great job creating suspense for the reader. The only place I found that my attention wandered was in a few of the in depth descriptions of medical terms - I found I had to sometimes reread these sections!

I liked that the villain from The Surgeon returned in this one as he was well written and a great foil for Rizzoli. She is such a strong character that it was interesting to really see someone get under her skin. I also really like the character of Rizzoli. I've seen many reviewers that say she is too brash and unlikeable - I don't get it myself. However, it did get a bit tiring hearing how she was an underdog because she was the only female in the homicide department. This was a constant thing throughout the first book, which didn't bother me, but in this outing, it just seemed to be thrown down the reader's throat continuously which I could have done without.

Again, the book is somewhat graphic in its description of the murders. And one of the details of the murders/the killers actually turned my stomach but if you can power through, it is a fantastically written book!

I'm very interested in reading the rest of the series and seeing how the character of Rizzoli evolves. I'm also interested to see when Isles actually becomes a main character! The rest of the series is currently sitting on my shelf!

l like that the characters introduced in the first of this series are a part of the ongoing story. Solving the crime through ongoing investigation, keeps the story interesting until the end with a not entirely predictable outcome.

While reading this story I had the feeling this was a book that worked as a clockwork, perfectly built. But I was so pulled by the story that I couldn't grasp all the back work needed to see the skeleton.
Tess Gerritsen is a master story teller that pulls you to her characters and makes you care deeply about them all.

Interesting follow up from first book with cliffhanger for the next
