I’m stunned by this final piece from Clarice Lispector (also my first read from her). A short life story of Macabea, who I understood as representative of women in poverty, told by the guilty, distracted, initially detached, but increasingly empathetic narrator, Rodrigo S. M who I think represents the opinion of the middle class. You come to realise Rodrigo is the main protagonist of this story, not Maca. This book has such an unconventional style and I’m obsessed.
