I think about this book often. I read this back in High School and I have not forgotten it. I still remember tidbits and someday I hope to do a full re-read. But its reminiscent of the LOTR trope. We get a girl with special powers who goes on a journey to defeat evil. I'm not sure if they are still in print anymore... But I sure hope they are!

I deeply enjoyed this book. The story was compelling, and felt like a refreshing take on a lot of tried and true fantasy tropes.

I loved the rich detail of the world-building and the narration really painted pictures in my mind, though I will admit sometimes I found myself skimming paragraphs describing the setting when I was anxious to get to the next important plot point.

The protagonist is fascinating. I found myself stepping easily alongside her in the book's emotional journey, and wanting her to succeed even when I wasn't exactly sure what consequences her success might incur.

I thought about this world and this tale for a long time after I put this first installment down.

oh MAN this was a wild ride!!! I read this book as a kid, but never finished it. so I bought a new copy and WOW I'm glad I did!!! This is a YA novel, but it reads like traditional high fantasy, so even if you're not into "typical" YA stuff, it's still a REALLY good read. The characters are fantastic and Croggon's writing style is absolutely beautiful. Everyone should read this at some point in their life.

I enjoyed this book. It is really more of a 3.5. I just felt that there were a lot of elements borrowed from LOTR but it was still enjoyable.

The Naming is an amazing book! I enjoyed all the surprises that kept me reading. It was interesting to learn about the Bard life and history and everything that came up. Cant' wait to read the next book in the series.

I thought this book was pretty good, for a first book. I actually enjoyed the little shout - out to the Earthsea trilogy with Cadvan's past escapade. I also thought the appendices were clever too.
