The grip this series has on me is unreal. I will be audibly gasping at multiple moments

Even if I am so pissed at the cliffhanger ending, I would rate this 5 stars. I was amazed by this sociopath, "Billy" Dent. William Cornelius Dent is easily the craziest of all sociopaths!! Even if I wasn't supposed to "like" him, his crimes are just pure genius.

I was also enthralled by Jasper Dent's encounters of hunting killers specifically his dad, although poor Jazz, whose brain has been fed with all dear old daddy's crazy sh*t since childhood. Mr. Barry Lyga, you have done a brilliant YA crime thriller in here. It was sicker than the first, so it was better. Overall, a fast-paced YA crime thriller you'll enjoy.

Often, but not always, the speed I read a book at tells me a lot about the quality of the book. I can sit there and tell myself I didn't have time to read, but I read Clockwork Princess in two days in my first week of having a job. I read Game's predecessor, I Hunt Killers exceptionally fast while I was trying to graduate high school. And Game...well, I read in a little short of a month. Yikes.

However, I did say that it doesn't ALWAYS tell me about the quality of the book. Because I loved this book almost as much as the first book. The pacing wasn't as tight and the POV jumping from Billy to Hat to Dog to Jazz to Howie to Connie and back around the circle again was exhausting and made the story super choppy, BUT despite all this, I was intrigued like crazy. If Lyga hadn't immediately nixed out the possibility of there being two killers so early, the BIG REVEAL wouldn't have been nearly as shocking. I was very sad to see Billy be right about Morales. I wanted her to survive somehow (honestly her chemistry with Jazz was far better than his with Connie's--sorry, not sorry) but we can't get everything we want.

As with the previous book, I was really irked by everyone's use of swearing...or lack thereof. Especially Jazz. You would think a guy raised by a serial killer wouldn't have a problem saying "shit" every once in a while, yah?

My other complaint was the way the cliffhanger(s) were handled. Howie's part was perfectly paced, but awkwardly placed. Connie's was really badly paced but its placement was fine. Jazz's was horrifically paced and suddenly the book was over. Either way, they made me want to know what's going to happen next.

TBH, I'm surprised a sequel held up so well. I read the first book in 2017 so quite some time ago and yet I was still easily able to jump back into the story and the characters.

A gripping read! I started this book directly after I Hunt Killers (Jasper Dent 1) and I haven't been able to put it down. It has many twists and turns and is really interesting and easy to read. If you liked the first book you'll love this one!

Not quite as good as the first book, but pretty close. I like the change of setting and the mystery was really compelling. Even though I get why they did it, I'm never a huge fan of perspective shifts. The romance was my least favorite part of the whole book, I honestly could not care less about it. Any time it would focus on that, I just kept thinking how badly I wanted to go back to the mystery. I was really surprised by the reveal, and that cliffhanger was crazy!

I got to 200 pages and found myself not caring, I didn't have the want or need to pick up the book.

By reading other people's reviews, it sounds like it starts getting good. But I've already given the book a good go, and decided I'm giving up.

It could be my mood at the moment, because I remember really liking the first one. Oh well.

Game is the sequel to I hunt killers, a story about the son of the most infamous serial killer. I really loved I hunt killers because Jasper is such a refreshing character. Usually, in murder mysteries, you get the good guys vs. bad guys, but Jasper is like a lotus, with roots in the muddy water, but still emerges beautifully from it. Of course, with a major cliffhanger like this, it is really hard to judge the plot until reading the conclusion (which hopefully will be great) in the next book.

Although I gave it a 5 star (because I really love the premise and characters in this book), there are still some problems with the plot, in particular, the pacing. The beginning was too slow and dragged on a bit. The characters, Connie in particular, is too "dumb", not in terms of intelligence (actually, she probably is even smarter than Jasper in that area), it's more about her being reckless and not "think" before acting.

I am so glad I did not read this book when it first came out and waited so that I would not have to sustain the torture of not having the next book right away.
