Moreno-Garcia elevates genre fiction (in this case mystery/crime) by adding layers of Mexican history and culture. We're given two flawed but appealing protagonists on opposite ends of a search for a missing woman. One is a career criminal starting to question his path and the other is a dowdy secretary, also questioning her path. Will their paths merge or forever run parallel?

My favorite SMG so far!! Noir with deeply flawed characters and a vague ending, all set against her classic historical Mexican backdrop.

3.5 rounded up

This was my first noir so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I enjoyed the pace of the story and the way the characters perspectives switched back and forth. While I enjoyed the story quite a bit I wanted more. I loved how the mystery was being built, how the characters were becoming more and more intertwined unbeknownst to them, but I was left wanting more.

Hold up there's a soundtrack too??

More reasons to love Silvia Moreno-Garcia!

This was such a big disappointment. It was nothing like I was expecting, and obviously not in a good way.
