This book was so annoying.

The FMC was one of the worst I’ve ever read. She was selfish, had one of the worst “woe is me” personalities I’ve ever encountered, and was just overall annoying. She only thought of herself and her past and her trauma and her feelings EVER.

The elven lore in this book was terrible. It made absolutely no sense, but maybe I’ve just read too many other fantasy books.

And the ending?? Please. How unoriginal and too.. obvious? Coincidental? I love a HEA but this was just too much. I was hoping for a cozy baking love story but I honestly couldn’t wait for it to end

I fancy myself a bit of a kitchen witch—I swear singing to my baked goods makes them better—so this story checked all my boxes. And when I found the recipes at the end (hello, lemon squares!), I was thrilled.

The magic here is very subtle, with not every character being magical in the traditional sense, but it works beautifully. This book gave me the cozy start-of-autumn vibe I crave, though it could be enjoyed any time of year.

I loved the main character, especially her flaws and the walls she had built, and watching her growth was a huge highlight. The found family in this novel felt magical all on its own. If cozy found family is your trope, this book is for you. The ragtag cast of characters is charming and lovable, each adding their own flavor.

Themes of believing in yourself, letting down walls, and accepting help from friends run throughout the story. To me, it felt like cozy fantasy meets The Great British Bake Off. The balance between sweetness and tension was perfect.

By the end, I wanted to bake the entire way through and was left with a deep sense of contentment. While I haven’t read many cozy fantasies yet, this one definitely stands on its own. I’d happily step into the bakery to bake alongside them all.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. The whimsical worldbuilding has me eager for the next book. I’d pair this story with a decaf Americano and a donut—the ultimate cozy combo.

Cute book. But so predictable - as is, I think, the point

DID NOT FINISH: 0%

Every sentence was a struggle to get through because of the insane amount of adjectives used in them. Really left nothing for reader's imagination to fill in the gap.

There's being descriptive and then there's whatever this was. I think i would have enjoyed the story but i found this so hard to read because every sentence was structured like this and packed with descriptors. Reading that many back to back really killed any motivation or desire to keep reading.

It felt like the author had a particular image in their eye for how readers were meant to see things and was writing in such a way to make readers see exactly what they envisioned. And i mean exactly - leaving no room for interpretation and clogging up the story by focusing on how everything looked in detail.
