Felt kind of poorly stitched together.

Well that was a whole lot of words about nothing. There's some okay action, but don't expect anything close to a satisfying ending that actually explains what on earth was going on.

Premise was intriguing but did not at all appreciate the grittiness, overt sexual references, foul language, bloodiness/violence. DNF What's even more disheartening is that I'm turned off the whole "Agent Cormac" series. Are the other Polity books similar?

Gridlinked follows an SF James Bond-like character Agent Cormac in a future where worlds are run by benevolent AIs (surely influenced by Iain M Bank's excellent Culture novels). He is being weaned off the grid, basically an internet connected directly to the brain via augmentations, after 30-odd years in order to revive his humanity but he also has a mission to fulfill and a madman chasing him across the galaxy set on revenge.

The 500+ pages flew by and I have a feeling I've found a great new space opera universe to explore!

I found the world building to be interesting. While it used very old formulas it still felt fresh. The world building didn't manage to save the plot or characters.

Went through the book in no time at all. I like some of the ideas, but it's also a bit too much "james bond in space". Will read some more from the series and see if it improves. Was okay, but not amazing either.

A bit clunky to start with, but settles down into an engaging, action-packed cyberpunk-esque story, with echoes of James Bond.

I think I'll be reading more from Neal Asher.
