Considering this is a fantasy, there isn’t a heavy overload of world building, so is positive in that it is easier to get into quickly and to digest but there’s no real concept of the lands, the fighting, wars or hatred between the fae and witches. Remy is a Red witch, which puts her in danger and so she hides her identity, there’s more to come on this and again not exactly difficult to deduce or feel overloaded with but you can see the plot line and concept so keeps the fast paced nature of the book. This style continues, with the main journey being written like it’s on fast forward and so details are glossed over or “experiences” aren’t added to give depth and understanding to the characters and the budding relationships. Hale and Remy go from enemies to lovers in the blink of an eye, or the turning of a page I should say!
I will certainly be reading the remainder of this series as it is enjoyable but don’t be expecting these to be colossal reads such as S J Maas fantasy reads.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review

This book was great but honestly I felt content at the end of the book and have zero desire to pick up the second book, which follows a different character.
This was a disappointing read. It felt like a flat version of the throne of glass series. The ending was predictable, I didn’t really connect the characters. I can’t quite put my finger on what I didn’t like about it, since it had a lot of the elements of books I do like; Adventure, fantasy, a quest, a strong female protagonist, enemies to lovers romance. That said, it was a bit of a struggle to get through and i’m not planning to read the rest of the series
4.5/5
While parts of this book felt rushed, I overall really enjoyed this! A lot went on, but it was overall really well written. I loved the dialogue between characters so much! The spice was there, but not overwhelming, which I also liked. Overall, 100% would recommend and highly enjoyed this book.

I liked it. I didn’t love, hence the 3 stars. The writing was meh for me, but the plot was good. The plot twist was 10/10, I really didn’t expect it which is hard to do to me. I loved Remy, I thought she was a badass, and I really did like Hale. Everything about it is what I want in my romantasies, but something about it was just a little off to me. The whole world building was good, I liked the world, but I felt there were things missing about the explanations of the other courts, etc. It IS the first book of a five book series though where I know it goes more in depth into the different courts, but I’m finding I don’t have a huge compulsion to read the other ones because I loved the lore of the High Mountain Court and the red witches so much. I may want to read the second or the last because I did love Carys and her story intrigued me, and I also am intrigued by the idea of Rua and Renwick since we hate Renwick so much in the first book. I may go back and try at a later date but I have so much in my TBR I want to read a lot more.
I don’t exactly know why I gave it 3 stars, like I said it had everything you could want, but I fear the writing seemed a little juvenile to me. I had troubles picturing them, they seemed a lot younger to me than they should’ve, I don’t know. It’s worth a read, but just beware of that, I mean it could just be me, too.
Also…I can’t give it away because of the spoilers and I don’t want to put the spoilers thing on, but the battle at the end and who gets killed and the last line from Bern in that chapter. I almost threw up I was so gutted UGH! Okay, that’s all.

A new fantasy romance series, of course I'm in! The writing could be a bit more fluid, I felt like there were some holes in the story. But it was entertaining for sure. The romance could have been spicier
