Ugh

I'm honestly not sure why I finished this book.
I got so bored of it that I had to force myself to pick it up each day.
There were a few parts that got interesting.
But overall, I couldn't wait for it to end!
I don't think this author could think of any other words to use besides fated mates, or fated, or mate... All within the last few chapters!
The story also seemed like a major ripoff from throne of glass.
I most definitely will not be continuing the series. I am not sure how it came to be 5 books. This one ended the series just fine!

Rating: 4.5 stars
This book had been sitting on my TBR shelf was quite some time. I was excited to finally read it in my first Book Club ever! I thoroughly enjoyed this story. My theories were mostly correct about the characters and plot. So it’s semi-predictable, but not in a bad way.

❤️Fated Mates

Loved this book though I’m not gonna continue with the Serie because I simply don’t care about the main Character of the following book.
(It’s probably just me but every time Remy used her powers I had Wanda in my head.)

Good first book. Interested in where the story goes from here. Lots of twists. Some you can see coming, some caught me off guard. Classic fated mates who will do anything for each other.

Maybe I read this book to close in time to Trial of the Sun Queen. But I felt like I was ready pretty much the same story with a few tweaks and differences here and there. Most of the plot was standard and the supposedly shocking plot twists were unfortunately quite obvious. Characters and their development fell rather flat IMO and again, this story didn’t seem unique at all. Highly debating if I continue reading.

“Do you wish to concern yourself with my tongue?”

“There she is.” He grinned.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow, Your Highness,” Remy said in a teasing tone. “Hale,” he said in a vacant voice. “Only ever Hale to you.”

“She had not earned the right to be who she really was.”

Meh. This whole book just kind of felt meh. I think the premise was oversold pretty hard, along with the hype I’ve seen on TikTok (should’ve been my first reg flag tbh). If this was tagged a middle grade fantasy it would HIT. However this is tagged as New adult and it feels so so far from that.

I made a joke in an update that the foreshadowing in this felt like the “subtle foreshadowing” TikTok trend and god was that spot on the rest of the time. AK Mulford must think their reads are truly dumber than shit because WHAT was that scene with the courtesans talking about the mountain court children. Be so fr.

Along the same lines, the world building felt so clunky most of the time. Instead of the main character experiencing a person, the first half of the book is other characters describing new characters and their traits to them. The most infuriating example is the poker game. They go person by person giving general descriptions, backstories, motives, family history etc.

Also a nitpick was the discrepancy of Remys age when the mountain court was attacked. While telling the story to the fae she says she was 6, a few chapters later, she says she was 7. That was just an irk.

This was simply alright. I have mixed feelings about the rest of the series following a different set of characters but from the writing style, jump into smut, and terrible pacing/story telling, I’ll pass on the rest of the series, it’s not for me.

This was a DNF for me. I really wanted to like it, but it never held my attention. I think the plot was a good idea, but it felt rushed. My biggest complaint is the dialogue which immediately put me off the book. It felt shallow and not at all fitting for royal warrior fae.

The vibes are off. It’s giving written by a self declared ally.
