This lands somewhere between 3 and 3.5 stars with me. I thought the first 40ish percent was too rushed and the enemies-to-lovers plotline wasn’t giving anything. They were too into each other from the beginning! I want real, true hatred!! I also guessed the major plot twist in chapter 2; it was simply too obvious. I was excited to read the second book but it looks like each subsequent book follows a new character and I just don’t know if I’m quite into that.

Ehhh okay but I feel like the plot went around in a circle
Really liked it, but I wish it was a bit longer. Some parts felt very rushed, and i had the feeling a lot of things stayed unexplained
DNF @30%
i wanted to like this, but holy shit it was soooooooooo bad. first of all, all this book was (so far) just the gang traveling. and as someone else said, how were they literally already a merry gang of friends by like page 10. also, remy and hale had this weird insta-love thing going on (guaranteed to later be revealed they were ~fated~ as some other foreshadowing [hale's fated "died" in the same place and same time remy escaped from] going on). also im crying at someone saying this is a SLOW BURN ENEMIES TO LOVERS. remy was talking about getting in his pants by page 20, and hale was calling her beautiful on page 10. like ? ?? ?? slow burn wherest?? i mean, theyre hardly even enemies in a technical sense. OOF.
there was absolutely no development of relationships, the plot is boring and literally going no where. usually when i DNF i have hope i can come back to it later but i know that i cant with this one so im actually adding it.
one positive i would like to note- it was refreshing to see a FL in a fantasy novel that was clearly a POC. i was pleasantly suprised when they described remy!

This was a nice enough read to pass the time. I think coming off of some of the other fantasy series I finished this year, it fell pretty flat in terms of world building and characterization. I never felt very immersed in the world - I didn't feel much was done to differentiate each "realm" (?) besides describing the different styles of dress and weather. Going from each place felt pretty rushed so there was never much time to really describe the cultural differences and styles of each kingdom so for most of it, I kinda of felt like we were staying pretty stagnant in terms of exploration.
The characters were fairly lackluster for me. Remy started out strong but falls victim to a variety of different tropes - super girl with super special powers just so happens to be one of the only living members of a high society - falls in love with mysterious, brooding man, and is immediately willing to sacrifice it all for him because of course he is her "fated Mate". It all just felt a bit cliche to me and while I was rooting for Hale and Remy, I didn't particularly care about either of them very deeply. Characters that I was interested it were pretty much sidelined in the middle so I ended up feeling pretty disconnected for the last third.
I felt like it was pretty rushed - basically a story of fetch quests without much of a dive into the lore to understand why these things were important. I felt like the "enemies to lovers" aspect of the romance was also rushed, and I would've liked to see more trepidation on Remy's side considering she spent so much of her life in hiding and was keeping a pretty gigantic secret.
All in all, it passed the time and was interesting enough. Not sure I will continue with the next book, but it was decent enough to cruise through.

This was a really fun fantasy romance and I enjoyed all of the characters and the world building. I would give 3.5 stars and definitely want to read to see what happens with the courts now in disarray. My only issues were actually that it was so short, I would’ve read probably 150 more pages in this book. Overall awesome and very inclusive start to a series I’m excited to read the rest of.
The male lead is insufferable and the plot didn't seem to pull from any kind of original concept.

This is my all time favourite book! I think this is such an underrated book/series and it deserves so much love!
As soon as I started reading this book I got transported to their world and I felt like I went on this journey with the characters. I didn’t want the book to end but I also needed to know how everything was going to turn out!
