Flash the donkey is very cute and, as a Texan I loved the scenery and some of the descriptions. However, this book felt like an advertisement for Rachel’s life coach work. If you are a Christian, be warned that her uses of the scripture verses throughout seem to be chosen emotionally by what resonates with her and are not always good uses of scripture.

Overall, I think this book was pretty good. I wasn’t expecting it to be a Christianity-focused book, but because it was non-fiction, I can respect the author’s ideas and opinions about her religion that were included throughout the story. Moreover, although I didn’t think this book was incredibly well-written and the author came off as quite insecure and entitled at times, I really enjoyed reading about Flash the donkey. I also appreciated the fact that the author seemed to be writing honestly; you can really tell she cares a lot about her friends, family, and pets.

This book was full of humor, heart-felt revelations, self-reflection, and beauty. Rachel Anne Ridge writes phenomenally and did a wonderful job of grasping my attention, relating to the reader, and prompting me to reflect on myself.
I was given this book by one of my Prayer Warriors and it is one of the best books I've been gifted in a long time. The blend of God and common humanity reminded me that our time on this earth is difficult, but so beautiful as we are God's children, and He wills us to continue growing throughout our time on earth.
I was warmed by how Ridge exposed her humanity and acted as a mirror to the things in my life I often breeze past in haste. This book has been so inspiring for me to reside in the place I am in at the moment I'm in it, to extend my abilities despite fear, and to find grace for all things in this world.
I would recommend this book to those looking for an easy yet "deep" book tha both lights you up and grounds you.

A sweet story and a strong reminder of how much we can learn from animals, especially those who are members of our family.

You’ll laugh. You’ll cry, but most of all you’ll be reminded that God uses the most common circumstances to remind you of His promises.

"Flash" a homeless donkey teaches about second chances. This 228 page book is a memoir about author Rachel Anne Ridge and her donkey. To have an animal take first place is rather unique, I think. However, the cover is how I chose the book.
I think donkey's are one of the most beautiful creatures God made. So I was pleased with the pictures dispersed throughout the book. I loved how Grayson encouraged his dad to keep the donkey. Maybe bordering on smart-alecky persuasion, but not really.
I tend to judge books by their covers and this one gets 5*. Just looking at the cover picture I imagined what it was about. A fun read! This book was a book of comfort. Rachel makes a point about her donkey staying out in the sleet, becoming a frozen mess, when shelter was at hand. She poses the question, "How many times do we prefer to stand outside in the cold and sleet instead of entering into shelter?"
I recommend this book to women who are trying to find their way. It's in the waiting that we find the most grace. "He is with you every step of the way. Always."

A funny, engaging memoir about a pet with a personality as big as Texas.

Things I disliked about this book:
- Flash makes up maybe 1/4th of the book, probably less. The author talking about her hair takes up approximately another 1/4th.
- The life lessons were a bit of a stretch. For example, the author realizes she needs to "find her passion" when Flash breaks into the neighbor's yard and knocks up their mare.
- The word "orthodontia" appears 4 times.

Things I liked about this book:
- Caring for a donkey doesn't sound to hard, which is great news for my prospects of one day owning a donkey.
