The second installment is just as good as the first, if not better! The apocalyptic world gets even more dangerous and interesting by the minute. It's a definite page-turner.

While it is good to be back in the post apocaliptic Metro universe, this book does not reach the quality of the first one.
Everything differs in this book:
- characters : while Artyom had been an easy-to-care-for character, the trio from this book are nowhere near that
- style of writing: it is excessively full of metaphors and hyperboles, giving the impression that the story is based on them. Also, by going back & forth from the point of view of all three main characters, the story is weakened and diluted.
Plus, the very strange ending.

The characters in “Metro 2033” are not the most fleshed out, not to mention that there are barely any women at all, but the book’s many qualities outweight its flaws. However, in this one, the flaws stand out. The girl character is a pitiful sexist cliché and the big, tough, so-called “mysterious” male character has as much personality as a thick piece of cardboard. The old man who serves as a main character could be interesting with his storytelling and memories, but he’s drowned in the surrounding mess. The plot is paper thin and the rich atmosphere that made the first book so captivating is but a fleeting memory.
