Says very little for the amount of words on the page, frankly. I cared very little for the main character, who didn’t have much character development and spent most of the novel being insufferable. It was a LOT of description for things I cared little about, and not enough description for things that perhaps might’ve been more interesting. Overall, I feel like this book gets lost in sloppily attempting to address World War I and grief, and poorly pastes itself into a polar horror setting.

Disappointed with this one because the premise was cool and could have been really creepy. It felt unnecessarily bloated and staggered along in parts. I didn’t gel with the writing style, full of cliches that cheapen any element of horror. It was nice to get some lgbt+ representation in a book set in the 1920s, but even then the main character’s whole personality is that he’s trans and real trans people aren’t two dimensional.

So extremely fun and engaging and interesting! I was so delighted by the main character being transmasc, that was a really fun surprise. Really tense and well paced too imo

A little hard to get into but once you hit the Shitstorm it’s hard to put down. Tarlington. My beloved. My son. I give you hot cocoa. I sob into the snow. Amazing book.
