not sure if i'm burnt out on this series or if this one was just not for me, i couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters

Another fantastic instalment! The plot was really good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a series that never gets old or repetitive.

At the Mass of the Dead, the priest placed the wafer of unleavened bread and the cheap red wine on the linen corporal draping the altar.

During a funeral mass for a prominent citizen, the presiding priest dies after drinking from the chalice. Eve is thrust into the world of the Catholic Church which leaves her frustrated and confused. A second death of a megachurch televangelist casts doubts on the route of her original crime.

This series never ceases to amaze me. I love the way Eve's mind works and how she views the world. Bringing the Church into black and white world was a hard thing for Eve. It's great that she turns to Roarke for answers on some of the religious aspects of the case.

There were so many twists and turns. Several cold cases popped up that had relevance to the current crime. I enjoy when Eve digs into the past to bring justice to the present.

Eve and Peabody were the major characters this time around. Other players were here and there but it was mostly the two strong women that fight injustice for the murdered victims.

Roarke is as sigh-worthy as usual. I may have to go back and listen to this one(probably to all of them) now that I've had a taste of the narration.

Excellent, excellent series that I highly recommend!

I don't know why this one just didn't hold me like most of the others do. Usually Ms. Roberts hits it out of the park--or at least gets a triple. This one got on base by pitcher error or something.

That being said--it still made it to base and didn't strike out.

I really liked the investigation into the past in this one. And how the victim was perceived by those around him, both in the present and in the past.
I didn't really see the need for the second victim / murder. To, me it just took up unnecessary page time.
And I understand Robb trying to form that connection between Eve and her cases, but not every case needs to have such an emotional connection to things in Eve's past. Eve can still be a good cop, can still stand for the dead, even if in the process of the investigation she's not reminded of her past.
It's possible I've just listened to too many of these books too close together, and the repetitiveness of the characters lives is glaringly obvious.
But, in all honesty, I kind of started this one out thinking it wasn't going to pull me in, but alas, I was so wrong.

This is my least favorite of this series so far. There were so many characters veering off in so many directions and in some cases characters posing as other characters and it all just became a jumbled mess in my mind. Combine the fact that this revolves around religious beliefs and takes place in a Catholic Church/ neighborhood and it became a chore to read. I can read books with there base in a religion and characters acting on religious belief, but here it was just a plot device and a way to show the main character’s belief’s when their life sometimes makes that shady.
I continue the series mainly for the love of the main characters that you watch in every book. The over arching plot of Eve and Roarke’s life both before and after they marry and the expanding supporting characters who continue to develop keep me picking up the series. Also I continue the series that my late sister loved and was half way through (at the time) when she died. I wish I could share the series with her still.

I have read pretty much all of the In Death series and this one, well, something was lacking for me. Maybe I am just done with the formula that is this series. It would be nice if Eve would grow a little more as a character. I get tired of the same old issues she keeps having. I found my mind wandering and it took me forever to finish this. It was good but nowhere near as good as the earlier books in the series.
