'The Princess Who Saved Herself' by Greg Pak with illustrations by Takeshi Miyazawa is a picture book inspired by a song by Jonathan Coulton.

In this story, the princess is an awesome kid who plays guitar and has a pet snake. The evil queen is annoyed by the noise and sends a dragon to stop the princess, but not much can stop this princess. The ending takes a nice turn.

I loved this rhyming heartfelt book. If my children were younger, we'd have a great time reading and laughing out loud. The illustrations are just fantastic!

Cute graphic novel that would be great for a younger audience. It's a short story about friendship and sticking by your friends, even in tough times. Overall, I think this would make a great addition to any library or your personal collection.

The best solutions are non-violent, as the Princess in this story demonstrates. Instead of beating up the dragon that attacks her, she talks to it. Instead of fighting with the bee that attacks her, she invites it over for tea.

It is good to have strong princesses as examples to little girls, as well as big girls.

Fun story, and you should seek out the original song that this was based on by Jonathan Coulton. Catchy lyrics, and fun to listen to.

Wonderful illustrations, and a dynamic girl, with her pet snake and her red guitar.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

3.5 stars. Cute story about the importance of friendship & treating others kindly. I love the illustrations. This was cute & I enjoyed it. I think it has a place in classrooms and school libraries as the story teaches an important lesson. Themes include friendship, cooperation/working with others, music, and bullying.

Thank you, BOOM! for the advance copy.

The Princess Who Saved Herself is a picture book about a princess who likes to play rock and roll on her electric guitar all day and night, to the Evil Queen's dismay. The Queen repeatedly tries to send her minions to poop on the Princess's party, but each time it ends up going horribly wrong! The artwork is pretty cute and it has a sweet ending with a positive and empowering message. The illustrations of the adorable bee made me smile most of all. At times I felt the rhyme scheme was a little awkward, and I think this story could easily have been longer and in the form of a graphic novel for middle grade readers as well, I really would have liked to see more of the Princess's world. I definitely think if you have a kiddo who is into princesses, music, or both, they will enjoy reading this story with you! The book is also apparently based off of/inspired by the song The Princess Who Saved Herself by Jonathan Coulton which would be really fun to listen to with your kiddo as well!

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

More of a picture book than a graphic novel, The Princess Who Saved Herself is adorable. With bright and fun illustrations and a whimsical story along with a pet snake, a giant bee, and a blue dragon, sometimes the villain isn't always evil. Sometimes people just need better communication. And sitting around with friends at a campfire and hugs make everything better.

I would love to see this turned into a longer story or series.
