Most of my issues with this book can be boiled down to being my own fault.
It’s too long: I’m just impatient.
It’s not scary at all: I don’t scare from books easily.
Too many husband-wife inside jokes that make me cringe whenever they come up, which is about every other sentence: This one is Steve’s fault, there were entirely too many.
I did enjoy some of the flashbacks as it shows the chemistry between Scott and Lisey, which was strong but is undercut by the EXCRUCIATING FUCKING INSIDE JOKES.
but I guess that’s just the smucking way it goes, babyluv.
see? see how stupid that is?
All in all, stupid but kinda not stupid.

AUDIOBOOK: This is a heavy book. This whole pacing of it, and everything about it felt heavy and dark. At one point I didn’t think I could get through it, it felt so plodding. Mare Winningham’s narration is excellent, but even though I obviously like dark material, this almost felt too much for me.
Man I tried, but I was not able to connect with this book. I couldn’t get into the characters, and I couldn’t invest myself in the story. None of it grabbed me. Not sure why. Lots of other people seem to enjoy this one. Not sure what I missed.
It might just be me BUT I absolutely love the made-up language- I think it is pretty creative. I love every single character, and the quotes hit hard for me. This is my favorite book ever right now. A great "slowburn"
Considering this is King’s favourite story, I’m gutted I couldn’t enjoy it as much as he did. I’m realising that fantasy just really isn’t my genre. This was far too long winded and honestly kind of “smucking” boring.
I've generally enjoyed most of Stephen King's books, as his talent for developing characters and giving them depth is unparalleled. However, I struggled with this one. The repeated use of certain words and phrases, like "strap-on" and "smucking," became so irritating. While I usually appreciate his horror and fantasy work, this book didn’t hit.

this was obviously deeply personal for king and i loved how fleshed out the characters were but i had to deduct a star because it definitely lagged at certain points (also i’m sorry but “bool” is such a stupid word i can’t take it seriously)
