Good ending to a great series! Nastasya is still coming to terms with her bff Inocencio's betrayal, and trying to make a genuine effort at Rivers Edge. As a 450 year old immortal she has done quite a few things she isn't proud of. River's Edge is the first step on the road to recovery, by giving immortals a positive way to use their magic and making them be responsible. At the end of the second book, Nas and Reyn had decided to give "them" a try. Finally!

***Spoilers***
Nas isn't learning as quick as she and the others would like for her to. Especially after Innocencio breaks out of his prison/ halfway house for immortals and they know he may be coming for her. Other Immortals are being attacked, and River's know it all brothers are convinced Nastasya is working with them and is bad news in general. River tells her that she doesn't feel that way, and suggests that Nas get a project. River suggests a garden, or repainting the barn. Instead of something simple, Nas buys an abandoned building and starts renovating it with shops on the bottom and apartments on the top. Unintentionally she creates a lot of jobs for the townspeople, and can't handle everyone looking at her like she is a saint. She and Reyn act like teenagers stealing kisses when no one is looking. I thought they were going to have a relationship, but apparently not. As soon as Reyn mentions the L word she runs away screaming, until she almost loses him for good. It all boils down to her not wanting to get to close to anyone else and bare losing them. In the end it all comes down to an epic battle between the residents of Rivers Edge and her uncle, and Rivers cousin. Nastasya's father locked her uncle away under his castle, he stayed there for 450 years until Rivers cousin released him. Both of them are bitter about not inheriting their families power and come after their remaining family. A few people die, and the two troublemakers are carried off so that they can get help. Skip two months past the battle, Reyn and Nas are living int their own apartment in her building and enjoying each other and their friends.

High four stars, maybe should rate it a five. I really did enjoy this. After some disappointment in book 2, this book came back solidly. Love Nastaya's droll remarks and some of the situations she gets into (naked chicken *Ü*). Lots of action and a little romance. Very happy with the conclusion to the series.

I had to read in hardcopy again as my library didn't have this in digital. I miss being able to easily highlight and then reflect on them at the end.

There was a very small, positive spotlight on Down Syndrome (a friend has a daughter with Downs so I'm a little more aware).

It was interesting to note Nastaya's struggle with her own goodness.

QUESTION: At the end of book 2, Nastaya still had her new look (bright hair) ... did they ever discuss her getting back to her natural hair color? I was assuming she went back to blond, but I missed it if the author added when/how that happened.

I think my beef with this series is I didn't realize it was YA when I started. Too much making out, not nearly enough naked Reyn, etc...
