A quaint and moving account of grief, moving on, acceptance and friendship.
The end to the central mystery was a little bit of a letdown, which is why the book isn't rated 4 stars.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. WHAT AN AMAZING READ! Very realistic family situation and different types of reactions to losing a loved one and coping with grief. Loved how Juniper tried to keep her sister alive, by searching for You and meeting all sorts of people in the mean time. Also loved how Junpier learned that not everything needs to be fixed or saved.

you know the feeling... when you just want something SO BAD... and you spend HOURS searching for it... and just...

nothing.

YEAH ME TOO.

i'm fucking pissed as shit that i never find out who "you" is. yes, i understand why. no, i am not okay with that reason. i am so incredibly upSET as to WHY this mystery is left a mystery to me. i am not trying to drag the author, but this betrayal is worse than the divergent book 3 allegiant betrayal to me.

HONESTLY.

other than that, i seriously felt like this was a book meant for a step down from YA. yeah it had elements of YA--language, minor romance, death, drinking--but in all actuality, i felt as thought it was written for a younger audience.

also, the romance. it felt rushed and although i enjoyed brand, there was no spark. i did think he was hilarious though.

"i'd offer you a hanky, but i left my gentleman's coat in the other decade."

and other than that... the whole plot seemed overkill for "happiness".

the one good thing that came out of this is that i started my own happiness index of sorts. i bought a planner and i plan to track the happy (and negative, despite the book's message) things in my day and book stuff. just for myself!!

but seriously. if you like coming of age, go for this book. honestly. but if you desire resolution (hard resolution, not philosophical or internal), then i would suggest no.

i am just so upset that i do not know the identity of you.

yeah one and a half stars.

A heartbreaking-yet-heartwarming book about grief + family + growing as a person after a tragedy. The mystery storyline about Juniper trying to find “You” is really engaging too!

My biggest complaint is that the secondary characters didn’t feel quite well-developed enough. I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if the friend group felt more lifelike and complex. They sometimes felt like tools for Juniper’s character development (which is interesting because a portion of the storyline is about Juniper realizing she CAN’T just use her friends as tools to help her move on from her sister’s death).

I loved this so much because lately contemporary YA has been falling very very short for me. I was worried that I've finally grown out of it and that I needed to move on to bigger things. BUT this book brought me back to how I felt reading contemporary YA in high school. It felt refreshing.

This book sums up how confusing high school and grief can be. Seeing Juniper's struggles was really challenging, but very rewarding.

I have some concerns about the romance that was present and some of the red flags the male interest showed. I hope in the sequel he seeks out therapy and works through some of the challenges he has faced.
