I really enjoyed this one. The short story on notes to married Christian husbands sent me in the best way and felt very personal and real. I will read anything and everything Deesha puts out. She has a way with words that feels so familiar.

Wow, this book was raw. Like really raw. Some of the stories shed light onto some real shit that be happening behind closed doors. Pastors faking. Moms favoring. Children and daughters, not knowing themselves, but having to find themselves through other relationships. 9 deep stories. It kinda reminded me of 'For Colored Girls.' I do recommend.

This collection of short stories was phenomenal, I found each of the characters to be varied and interesting and if you asked me to give defining characteristics I still think I could. The stories were painful and funny. I deeply enjoyed the use of different types of storytelling with the instructional guide on How to Make Love to a Physicist coming first for its interesting style.

Just excellent. I can't believe how invested I got in the characters in each short story. I keep trying to decide how to describe the writing and I think the best word I've come up with is *clean* - straightforward and not particularly flowery, but still beautiful and precise and very engaging. And for audiobook listeners, the reader was masterful and has a gorgeous voice.
