I really wanted to love the story, but The female lead just got under my skin and was super annoying. It felt very tropy and very predictable.
4 stars to The Exorcist’s House, a book that truly creeped me out.

I love a good possession story, even if they terrify the lapsed Catholic in me, and this one delivered. It’s about a family in 1994 that buys an old farmhouse in hopes of flipping it quickly while the market is hot. Of course the farmhouse used to belong to an unofficial exorcist and there is all kinds of evil in the basement that the family will have to face off against.

While some of the story was predictable, the mashup with a few haunted house tropes and slightly new takes on possession tropes made the story feel fresh and kept me hooked. Daniel, Nora and Alice were all interesting characters and I rooted for all of them.

Possession stories and movies scare the crap out of me for a few reasons, the body contortions/cracking sounds, the general idea of demons and watching someone you love be taken over just gets me every time and this book had all of those in spades. There were a few nights where I had to stop reading before bed because no thank you to those images floating around.

If you like horror I highly recommend this one-it’s fast paced, creepy and perfect for this time of year. I also think it would make for a fun movie one day.

This book wasn’t necessarily bad, it just wasn’t really anything at all. Most of it was pretty cliche and not super interesting. Like if you just thought of the most basic demonic possession story it would probably be this book.
