The Exorcist's House

Nick Roberts

3.92 AVERAGE

"In the summer of 1994, psychologist Daniel Hill buys a rustic farmhouse nestled in the rolling hills of West Virginia.

Along with his wife and teenage daughter, the family uproots their lives in Ohio and moves south. They are initially seduced by the natural beauty of the country setting. That soon changes when they discover a hidden room in the basement with a well, boarded shut and adorned with crucifixes.

Local legends about the previous owner being an exorcist come to light, but by then, all Hell has broken loose."

Nick Roberts’ "The Exorcist’s House" plunges readers into a haunting tale that masterfully combines the creeping dread of the supernatural with the terror of body horror. From the start, the novel hooks you with its eerie atmosphere and refuses to let go, delivering a spine-tingling narrative filled with suspense and emotional depth.

One of the novel’s standout strengths is the way it explores human connection amidst the chaos. Roberts crafts characters that feel authentic and deeply relatable, from their fears and flaws to their moments of courage and vulnerability. The relationships within the story, particularly those among family members, add an emotional weight that makes the unfolding horrors hit the heart even harder.

The writing style is vivid, offering graphic details of what these characters are dealing with while maintaining an atmosphere that constantly keeps the reader's attention.

It’s a story that keeps you guessing, keeps you scared, and keeps you emotionally invested from beginning to end.

I really enjoyed this book! It’s pretty fast paced and it did scare me quite a bit. The imagery is good and the characters make sense. They make rational choices and while they’re not really fleshed out, for a 300 page book they’re solid. Some parts are a little repetitive but the book does feel like a horror movie. Lots of fun!

I really liked the pacing of it all and thought the descriptions of the demons and such were sooo immersive!

I was so infuriated by their decisions even though I knew why it was happening. Definitely going to pick up the next one!

Likes it. Though the characters, Daniel in particular, were infuriating. I found myself screaming at the pages, more than once.
Aside from that: quick, enjoyable read with some great moments.

Some seriously creepy moments. Loved it!

This was a really enjoyable possession/ haunted house story! Classic stupid behaviour from the characters and an adorable four legged companion! Absolutely checking out the sequel
