I’m a bit split on how I feel about this. The horror elements of this were done in a very effective way. It starts with a very tense scene that pulls you in this book fails for me in the framing. The characters are a bit Ben and Broadley drawn, our main character who is the father is the hardest to swallow. He’s a typical TV dad from a 90s comedy. I wish he had more depth and complexity. Almost everything was a stereotype of the horror and haunted house genre the teenage daughter who doesn’t wanna move on her senior year the marriage that’s in trouble , Home purchase that was impulsive and too good to pass up. But there’s still no denying how good the scares are here. The book also tries to pull off a few surprises, but in some ways, the rules of the haunting contradict itself.

The Exorcist's House by Nick Roberts
A psychologist, his pregnant wife, and their teenage daughter move into a farm in the hopes of renovating and flipping out. They shortly find out that the house used to belong to an exorcist and its unwanted guests don't want to remain dormant.
This totally and completely sucked me in. I found myself go from Chapter 4 to Chapter 18 in a blink of an eye. The author was descriptive and parts of the book are terrifying, if you can be scared. The ending was also on point. It makes me want to grab up the second book to see if we get answers to the questions it provoked.
What I didn't like so much is that the reviews did state this book was terrifying... it just didn't terrify me. I didn't feel myself get genuinely scared in the slightest. I totally would have enjoyed it more if I did though.

Psychologist Daniel Hill uproots his family from their home in Ohio to start a new life in West Virginia, moving them to an isolated farmhouse. As the family begins to adjust to their new life in the country, mysterious events begin to plague the family once they discover the secrets hiding in the basement. Soon, the family faces the fight of their lives as Hell has been unleashed upon them once those secrets resurface.
The Exorcist’s House by Nick Roberts was a gripping horror novel about a family’s struggle to survive against a house full of demons. This book was exhilarating, creepy, grotesque and disturbing. The characters were very enjoyable and I liked getting the perspective from all of them. The pacing was executed wonderfully with the slow build up managing to rack up the tension in a way that made it impossible to put the book down. I had to know what was coming next! I also appreciated learning more about exorcisms and some of those details that go into the process, recorded cases, and more which made it more frightening.
The Exorcist’s House was a bone-chilling tale filled with plenty of frights, disturbing sequences, lovable characters, and twists and turns that made this an incredible read. While the ending may have felt a bit rushed, this is overall a horror book that is worth your time and a perfect read for this time of the year!
