Monsters Under My Bed by M.J. Marstens is a monster romance. This is the first book in the Bogeymen trilogy.

This is the first book of M.J.'s that I have read and it won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed getting Alexis, Mark, Xhoshad, Nerazi, and Seriq's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

The book ends on a great cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait to dive into the next book Monsters In My Bed.

I would recommend this book if you like monster romances, dark romances, or erotic romances.

Tropes/Triggers: dubious concent, RH MMMF (Potential for MMMMF later)

Okay, imma skip the recap plot cause the blurb pree much covers it. However, I did like the take on it. The "boogymen" are born from human emotions e.g. possessive, deception etc. And feed off human emotions.

The FMC, I get some don't like her and find her selfish cause she ran from home, didn't return when her mum died and only came back 12 years later when her dad was sick. But I kinda get it. She told her parents there were monsters under her bed. Visiting her each night. They didn't believe her (okay who would?) But when her health deteriorated because of stress, fear and lack of sleep. At the very least that could be night terrors. And they refused to get her a night light. Idk bout you guys, but I'd of bought it for my kid. Ridiculous or not if it helped I'd of forked out the what 30 bucks? So no I didn't like her parents.

Spoiler
Now, I did figure out the Lost Heir plot the second it was mentioned - that twist I saw coming. I mean who write what they did about Mark if he wasn't going to be central character. So it was kinda obvious that he was the Lost Heir. Also, who waits 12 years? In a world talking about mates, kind of obvious that was a reason behind it. I am a little mad however that the ending ended where it did I mean come on haha that felt like it cut off mid sentence almost

My oh my oh my....

My first read by M.J. Marsters. Not a bad storyline. I was slightly annoyed with how the fmc was painstakingly terrified and made it a huge deal, to find out what she was really terrified of were just her own feelings of being ashamed for her own desire. However I really did enjoy this book and the artwork was crazy!!! Excited for book 2.

pictures in the book!

First off let me say… there are some naughty pictures in this book. I went into this not having any expectations but it’s full of story, plot, compelling characters, suspense, backstory/flashbacks and it all comes together in a perfect puzzle. I can’t want to read more into this world and honestly see where Mark fits into this because I was totally rooting for him!

Yah this was heavy noncon with zero warning about being noncon. Like the FMC says no repeatedly but its blatantly ignored.

Idk what happened. The first 75% was pretty compelling, but the last bit was so different. It felt unfinished or like a draft. It washed as fleshed out, and I ended up skimming a lot of it because it was pretty info-dumpy towards the end.
I loved the whole Boogeyman concept though and would have loved to see their world in more detail instead of the bare bones we got.

Awesome read over the weekend! Really intense and original idea! Can't wait to read the next in the series :) Was a great start to a potentially wonderful series

Wished there was just a little bit more to it (but I suspect this will be remedied in the next book in the series) and personally didn't always care for the main protagonist's way of thinking.

Trigger Warnings: Dub-con, Non-con, Death, Stalking, talk of mental disorders
