Of Darkness and Light, Book 2 of The Bound and the Broken, is a tremendous step forward. In every has this book improved over its predecessor. What's good, continues to stay excellent, the action, characters, and the "Classic Fantasy Feel." With issues I didn't have improving significantly again. Going to new and unique locales, expanded PoV's (from 2 to 5), and faster and more coherent pacing.

Ryan Cahill might be the one of the most and fastest improving authors, and Of War and Ruin is jumping up the the top of my list.

This had me hooked from the prologue and what a ride from then on. At one point I had to stop reading as I was so concerned about Calen I feared his outcome. When an author has the ability to capture the reader's attention in such a way you know you're on to a winner and this series has truly won me over. Fantastic read.

Rating: 5/5

After only starting this series at the end of July, I wasted absolutely no time in continuing in The Bound And The Broken series by immediately diving into the next book, Of Darkness And Light.

"There is nothing more important in the darkness than a ray of light."

I have massively enjoyed The Fall and Of Blood And Fire, however, I feel like Ryan Cahill’s second novel in the series has really taken this series to a new level. You can see when reading this book that Cahill has become a lot more confident in his writing and story-telling and this allows Of Darkness And Light to become a truly epic fantasy. While Of Blood And Fire was very familiar to any reader of fantasy using many well-known tropes, this book really breaks free from those tropes and becomes something new and exciting.

“There are demons within us all that we must face. They only ever surface when we are at our lowest because they are not strong enough to challenge us at our highest."

Of Darkness And Light picks up almost immediately after the events of the first novel and immediately we are thrust into the heat of battle. From there we get to explore every corner of Epheria in an epic, fast-paced and multi-threaded story with the addition of numerous new POV characters allowing us to really delve into the world that Cahill has created here. Kallinvar and Dayne were two particular new POVs that I massively enjoyed reading. Cahill’s characterisation across the vast cast in this novel is strong and he really brings highlight to the pain that each character has felt and how it has shaped them in different ways.

“Being sorry soothes nothing but your own ego, brother. Be better.”

As I reached the end of the book I was desperate to keep going with the story and I absolutely cannot wait until the next novel in the series is released - at least in the meantime I have another novella of The Bound And Broken series, The Exile, to keep me going. I really do absolutely love this series and would thoroughly recommend it to any fans of fantasy.

The story is good but I've already read The Wheel of Time once. Uraks = Trollocs. Calen = Rand. Draelid = The Dragon Reborn but with a literal dragon

God I love that fucking dragon and the cliffhanger at the end was like not even something I thought could happen.

One of the greatest epic adventure stories I have ever read. Coming from the first book which focused primarily on the main character Cahlen and the group he travels with, this one breaks off into lots of different POV characters all spread across the continent. This book is filled with awesome battle scenes that put you right into the scene in the way Ryan Cahill can describe it. The ending of this book was amazing and makes you want to read the 3rd book right away.

Wow, I was not expecting that revelation at the end! The last 4th of this book was action-packed. It was a little slow for my liking during the majority of the book but the ending was worth the wait. Excited to continue this series🐉⚡️🤺
