Upped everything from the first book- the quality of the characters, the worldbuilding, the stakes as well as the brutality in some places. I really enjoyed more time with Valerys as well (I love a dragon in a book) and Dayne was also a really interesting new addition- I'm excited to hear more about him in The Exile.
Please, please let Rist's character arc not go where I think it is going aaah
