I received THE MURDERER'S DAUGHTER as an ARC through NetGalley.com.

For the first half of this book, I only kept reading because I couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was that I didn't like about it. I never quite figured it out (aside from not liking the main character, but that alone has never stopped me from enjoying things before) but when I reached the halfway point there were finally some questions that I wanted to know the answers to, and so that's what kept me reading until the end. There's really not much else I can say about this one.

A new character and (book-a-year) series for Kellerman. I was a fan of his Alex Delaware series but the last few it felt to me that Kellerman was just cranking them out and all the depth to the characters had been reduced to conversations over food. Now we have a female psychologist with a horrifying back story. Kellerman does disturbing, gruesome psychological history for children and it was one of the things that made his earlier books so intriguing. Horrifying and yet believable , Kellerman's own background in forensic psychology was/is brilliant. Grace is damaged, brilliant, wealthy beyond measure, and is one of the good guys with a need to stalk strange men for sexual release and one-night stands. I don't know of this woman rings true or it's a male fantasy - my jury is out on this. The stalking of the evil man who was the evil boy from her youth takes a long time and requires many amazingly lucky accurate guesses and the resolution comes late and fast. A few other interesting characters are touched on and are left to be developed in later books I guess. Three stars is an indication that it was an OK start for a once favorite author in his new direction, but I'm not sure. There is an emotional depth lacking for Grace and while that makes some sense given her back story, the reader isn't going to care more than the main character does.

Fantastic read as always. Not sure what to make of the ending.....

Very well written, engaging, and entertaining. Though there was more storytelling than action and the climax was too quick, it was a good read.

This book was originally reviewed on Sara's Books and Things .

I really liked this book. It's filled with twists and turns keeping you in suspense the entire book. Personally, I absolutely loved Grace. She is brilliant but still feels relateable. I also enjoyed how you get to watch Grace grow up concurrently with the story, about every other chapter, it gives you a good feel of how Grace became the person she is.

The silent antagonist also had a traumatic beginning to his life but the choice he made were very different. It's an interesting dynamic, I'd love to know more about his young adult years but oh well.

The flashbacks to Grace's childhood are where we see most of the action occurring. In the present most of her battle is mental, planning and preparing with little real action.

This book was exceptionally well written, once you pick it up you're not going to want to put it down. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys psychological thrillers.

I received this book courtesy of NetGalley and Ballantine Books in exchange for my free and honest review.

3.5 Stars.

I really liked this book! Grace is a badass, and there needs to be more women like her in novels. I am hoping this is only book one of a series, because I really liked her.

Grace is a clinical psychologist with a terrible past and childhood, but has managed to beat the odds that were stacked against her. She keeps her emotions in check and doesn't allow anyone to get too close. Her personal life and her professional life suddenly get meshed together in a terrible way, and Grace has to attempt to fix it before her whole life blows up in her face.

This wasn't a thriller by any means, but the character-building in this novel was superb. I did find it suspenseful, and I breezed through this one wanting to know who was involved and what was going on.

Just like the Alex Delaware books, a mile-a-minute thriller, but this time with a ruthless survivalist heroine at the helm. Grace is such a fascinating combination of compassion and isolation -- in some ways she treads right on the edge of sociopath, but since she pretty much exclusively uses her powers for good, it's impossible not to root for her.

advance reader's copy povided by edelweiss.

the entire time I thought I was going to get a very climatic ending. what I was left with was a short and dull ending to the entire book and then an even more ridiculous ending to the actual story.
