Just too good (and smart, and rich and good looking etc) to be true....with characters like these there's no need for a police force....
The Murderer’s Daughter by Jonathan Kellerman is a perplexing novel. Grace Blades witnessed her mother murdering her father when she was five years old. Her mother then killed herself. Grace then entered the foster care system. Grace got lucky when she was moved to her eighth foster home. Her social worker, Wayne Knutsen was getting ready to change careers (go to law school) and wanted to place Grace in a good home (a last act of kindness). Ramona Stage runs Stagecoach Ranch. Ramona was a nice lady who recognized Grace’s intelligence and helped her utilize it. She called a friend, Dr. Malcom Bluestone who tested Grace and then got her the right study materials.
Grace is now Dr. Grace Blades, a clinical psychologist. She is about to go on vacation when she gets an unusual new patient. He said his name is Andrew Toner from San Antonio, Texas. Andrew turns out to be the gentlemen Grace picked up in a bar the night before (what a coincidence). Andrew claims to have come to Grace based on an article she wrote many years ago (based on an actual experience from her life). Andrew ends up leaving the appointment abruptly with giving Grace any information. The next day Grace gets a call from the police department. Andrew was found dead with her business card in his shoe. Andrew is evidently not his real name. Who was he and why did he seek Grace out? While Grace is out driving, she notices that she is being followed. Grace starts investigating and finds a link to someone she met briefly when she was 12, but he left a big impression.
Grace utilizes her skills to track down who is out to kill her before they can get her. I did not enjoy The Murderer’s Daughter. It was listed as a thriller, but was more of a book on revenge. It is a very long, drawn out plot. This book could have easily lost over a hundred pages. The most interesting part of the novel was reading about Grace’s upbringing. The novel would go back and forth from the present to Grace’s past. There is graphic violence, sex, and foul language in the book. I give The Murderer’s Daughter 2.5 out of 5 stars. It sounded like such a good novel, but the story was not enjoyable to read.
I received a complimentary copy of The Murderer’s Daughter from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The review and opinions expressed are my own are not influenced in any way.

This was my first Kellerman so I don't have anything to compare it to. I liked this book. The flashbacks were sometimes abrupt and jarring but, mostly, I liked the main character enough to let my irritation go. Grace Blades is brilliant and damaged and knows her mind so well that I immediately liked her. This book wasn't perfect but I truly enjoyed the quick-paced ride to the end.
Okay, so I finished this book. Overall it was fine. I had a few issues with the main characters decisions but I found some parts of it pretty interesting and I was okay with the ending. I just.. don't feel like I got much from it. Like, it didn't really excite me so I didn't really get into it. Even though its the type of book I totally digg.
Not much to say really. Genius girl is orphaned at a young age grows up to be a phycologist. A potential client of her's is murdered and she becomes a target. In an attempt to save herself she uncovers information about said client and stuff happens.
I think "the Murder's Daughter" title and synopsis on the cover is a little bit misleading. I thought more was going to come from that fact and the "history" between her and this potential client. But if you just think of her as an orphan I think that leaves less to be expected.. I dunno..
Part of me wants to give the book 2 stars, but I don't actually think it was bad. It just didn't really do anything for me in the end.

It's been forever since I ate Kellerman books for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This was a nice way back into his writing. Suspenseful, no. A good story, yes. It's tried and true Kellerman... with a new heroine.
Man this was so good up until about the 50% mark. I had to skim and skim and when I got to 80% I just didn't feel anything up to that point was great or interesting or anything. This rambled on too much and by the end I was just waiting, waiting to be done. And then that ending?? I'm sorry I even started this book. It managed to hold my interest for half the time, and for that I gave it 2 stars. I enjoyed reading about Grace's upbringing and the obstacles she faced to get to be the woman she became. But the whole mystery part of the novel was drawn out and boring. I am sorely disappointed.

Grace Blades is a psychologist who knows just what her troubled clients have been through. Kellerman does a great job of showing Blades' backstory through frequent flashbacks. The story builds and builds and the layers keep adding to the depth of the story. The characters are very well-developed and drive the plot.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who gave me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first Jonathan Kellerman book, but it definitely won't be my last. It drew me in from the very first page, when we meet Grace for the first time as a little girl. She's a fascinating character and one that will stay with me for a long time to come. I hope that she's a character we will meet again in future novels, as there is so much more of her story that could be told. Her past was fascinating, but I have a feeling her future will be even more so. Although the present day aspect of the story did drag a little in places, the flashbacks to Grace's past were enthralling and more than made up for it.
This book ended up being very different to anything I've ever read before and I enjoyed it immensely. An excellent 4 stars. Recommended.
