Honestly I couldn't stand it. It was boring and so slow. It jumped around way too much and took forever to get to the main plot.
I can honestly only say I liked the point of the plot and the descriptions.
I really wanted to not finish this book but I've never done that and I don't wanna start now.

A special thank you to Random House, Ballantine Books, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

THE MURDERER’S DAUGHTER by Jonathan Kellerman, a standalone featuring protagonist Dr. Grace Blades, a dedicated and intelligent psychologist with a horrific past; two worlds collide – an intriguing psycho-crime suspense, with a strong mix of literary fiction.

Grace, 34, a highly regarded psychotherapist in L.A. Her therapy room is located in a 1920s English cottage serving as her professional headquarters on a quiet corner in West Hollywood. Grace had insisted on the ideal location so patients could enter on one street and exit on the other. She has a gift for treating troubled souls and tormented psyches—and her own childhood tragedy.

Flashing back and forth we learn of a five-year-old- Grace in a trailer park, who lived with two strangers on the fringes a desert. Her biological mother and father were alcoholic drug addicts. There was a violent murder – a bloody suicide, and she is placed in foster care and later adopted.

Grace, now a highly intelligent psychologist, has a dark secret life. She enjoys one night stands with strangers. Turns out, one man (one of the hookups), Andrew becomes a new patient, traveling out of state to see her. (using an alias, of course). When she realizes he is from her past, and turns up dead, she now is in danger.

Now her professional life and past collide – a past she thought was behind her. Will her double life be exposed? Now Grace conducts her own investigating, pulling her back into the evil violent past, she thought she had escaped.

Grace, an intriguing damaged character a survivor, brilliant, intelligent, yet cold and dark, at times and detached. She possesses tenacity and is driven to solve the mystery--She has to face her demons from the past in order to have a future.

Due to Grace’s complex character, felt THE MURDERER’S DAUGHTER was more of a deep character study, than a thriller, with seamless transition from past to present- Nicely Done.

My first book by Kellerman and look forward to more!

A little slow, but loved her background story.

Not a bad book, but not what I expected. Grace seemed to be a little too good to me...like Jack Reacher. Also a little bit of a nut to me. Not what I expected from Jonathan Kellerman at any rate.

A new standalone by Jonathan Kellerman delivers as always a page turning suspense !
Grace Blade is a psychotherapist that deals in trauma cases. A young, brilliant doctor Grace keeps to herself living a life of solitude other than her patients. The closest she comes to emotional encounters consist of one night stands. It is after one such nights that she finds her world turned upside down as she gets caught up in a murder case and being threatened herself. Is Grace's tormented past catching up with the life she has made for herself ? Can she survive ?
An exciting story that pulls you into the life of Grace Blade as she goes rogue on her own search for the killer and relives her childhood.
The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star was an ending that seemed to be wrapped up a little to fast without explaining all my questions. Overall a great read !

My first Jonathan Kellerman novel, recommended by a friend because of the main character. This is one of the few believable female leads that was born logical and raised in neglect. Good research about realistic detachment.

Dr. Grace Blades is the psychologist to see, highly accomplished and dedicated to her patients. However her life had a dark and difficult beginning. When a new patient, who has a lot in common with her early life, ends up dead she fears her own history being exposed.

My coworker recommended this to me. This book is more mystery than thriller but I found myself not caring about the events as much as I would have hoped. I just kept feeling like Blades was making a much bigger deal of things that the situation warranted and that the choices she made didn’t really make a ton of sense. The way Kellerman tells Blades backstory though is done really well and is really interesting and where this book shines the most.

I listened to this book and I think that helped me get through it, I think I would have struggled to care enough to get through the physical book.

I received this as a digital ARC from Netgalley.

I am a huge Jonathan Kellerman fan and had high expectations for this book. I was a little disappointed. There was too much back and forth between the main character's past and her present. As tragic as her life was I couldn't feel any sympathy for her. I was told so often that Grace Blades didn't connect with anyone that I believed it myself and couldn't connect with her character.

Probably 2.5 for me. I missed Alex Delaware! I didn't like this character at all - liked her childhood story much more than her as an adult. I hope she doesn't become a recurring character. Oh, and I wrote a much more interesting twist than Kellerman wrote when I was considering the plot early in. Overall, this was disappointing.

Eh.
