hear me out: this was reminiscent of “a little life” to me, in that it was a long, sweeping book of pretty and straightforward storytelling, quite apart from a lot of contemporary lit fic in style. as far as content goes, we’re following david win, a gay anglo-burmese brit, from adolescence through the rest of his life. it’s a story about his life, really, but themes like art, racism, and geopolitics are done well and with subtlety. all in all, it’s a lovely book about an unconventional life and the quotidian.

Recommend if you like BGBs (big gay books), BGBs (bi or gay boys), and BGBs (bullies and Great Britain)
