Naked Empire, I dreaded this book, I felt like this was going to be the worst book of the series to date. Truthfully I can honestly say that of all the times that I have read this series I have never enjoyed this book. But, I am going to do my best to try and be neither too negative nor overly positive. Because as much as I dislike the book, there are always good points to a book, although on this one I have trouble thinking of any right now.
It was kind of a funish story with Richard and Kahlan heading back to the New World after Richard helped start a revolt in Altur'Rang, the spiritual capital of the Imperial Order. This happened when their party including Jennsen, Tom and Cara were waidlaid by some random traveller. The traveller pleaded with Richard for help freeing his people from living under the book of the Order.
Richard tries to say no saying he has to return to the New World and help with the war there but the man says that he has actually poisoned Richard so Richard has to help him or die.
We leave Richard and go to the New World and character's like Verna and Zedd as Jagang comes up with new ways to seize the Wizards Keep and move his troops through a tight pass through to invade D'Hara.
Both stories are interesting enough but have been told before. Stuff with Zedd and Adie battling a new threat and the stuff with Verna and her allies battling the order without Richard and Kahlan to back them up was intriguing but eh. The secondary arcs have been the only strengths in these laters books and have become the saving grace of the Sword of Truth Series.
Of course, this is still a Sword of Truth book, so you have to expect that the typical issues of the series would be present. And if you go and look at my past reviews you will see what those issues are. I am not going to make Terry's mistake and get repetative. This book though, this book has more issues than normal and I don't know if that is a portent of things to come. And thinking about those issues I can understand better why I was never a fan of this book itself.
I felt like in this book Terry went a little bit crazy with how moral and philosophical he got and the lessons he was trying to shove down our throats. Richard spent far to much time ranting against this or that evil and telling everyone how they had to properly live their life according to them.
I am going to try and make the rest of this brief.
Richard battles his latest foe, some great evil.
Richard with out having to deal with out having to face any consequences finds a way to solve all the flaws of democracy.
Richard leads by example and beheads a peaceful group of protesters against his cause.
Richard proved his own hypocrisy enslaving his own beliefs on both the Imperial Order and Bandacar all while crying out that people can live free under the rule of Rahl as long as they followed his beliefs.
Its crazy and insane and I think that's that one good thing I can really find about it, that the craziness and insanity gives me a good read.

I have to admit that I liked this one way more than the previous. My favorite characters are back, and they actually stay together for most of the story!
This book doesn't really follow the main story. It is more a side story that is still a part of the larger story. Jagang only appears for a few chapters, but there is a new villain introduced that Richard has to take care of. Throughout the book, Richard and Kahlan are forced to help a group of people known as the Bandakar. We later find out who these people really are, and you will find out why Richard is forced to help, but I don't wan't to spoil anything. As this is going on, Zedd and Addie are protecting the Wizard's Keep, but loose it when they are captured by some men and a Sister of the Dark. They are taken to Jagang and tortured for information.
I was really worried about Zedd and Addie the entire time! I really didn't know what was going to happen to them. There were times when I almost cried because Zedd remembers some things from his past that are a bit upsetting. Lets just say I was really intrigued by their story and how it was resolved.
As for Richard and Kahlan's story, I really enjoyed it. I thought it was interesting to learn about these new people and see who they really were. The only problem with this part of the book was that these people were extremely misinformed and cut off from the rest of civilization, so Richard has to go into several lengthy speeches, and it started becoming a bit too preachy for me. Also, the new villain "Nicholas the Slide", was just annoying and not well developed. I couldn't stand all the repetitive details of his actions and thoughts. The battle that Richard and Nicholas have wasn't what I was expecting either.
Overall, it was a pretty decent story. There were slow parts, but they were filled with some history and other important information, and there were also a few enjoyable battles. I liked this book much more than the previous, but it is not my favorite.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has read this far into the series. It is a good and fun read, and better than the last book.

Last book for me in this series. 2 star is still an ok book for me but I wont drag my self trough another of these. Goodkind's preaching in this series have just annoyed me, the guy thinks he's imparting some wisdom, not only because he goes of in a tangent with no connect to the story but his ideals are laughably silly. It's not the preaching that made me give up this series but the books have turned boring with no impelling characters unlike the very first books in the series.
If you are a writer you could use this book as a guide for what not to do.

i've read some of the reviews for this and others and seems like a love it or hate it... I really enjoy them though... this one was a little "preachier" but still enjoyable for me!
This one wasn't too bad, it would probably get 3 1/2 stars if this system allowed for that. It was an interesting story line and there were some excellent sequences in the book. It loses half a star because the protagonist, a rare and powerful wizard armed with the most powerful weapon in the world YET AGAIN is coerced against his will to do something he doesn't want to do.
You know, I forgot how much emotion this book gave me. Now I return to the end trilogy of the Sword of Truth series. Excited!
