Both for Cellier’s books and Snow White retellings as a whole, this was a surprisingly good read! While I’ve enjoyed Cellier and fairy tale retellings alike for a mindless read, this was the first of either that I really engaged with as I read. Normally I don’t connect with Snow White as a character, but Blanche was an enjoyable protagonist with a surprising personality. The romance was highly predictable, but I was able to enjoy it to an extent. I do wish a bit more time had been spent with the stand ins for the seven dwarves, who were very much shunted to the side shortly after they made their appearance, but I also enjoyed the direction Cellier decided to take with them. Despite tying into the series as it should, I felt that this book was really the most stand alone installment and I enjoyed it all the more for that aspect.

This might be my favorite Snow White retelling. To be quite honest, it’s never been my favorite fairy tale, but this story did it so well. In this story, Princess Blanche, known by her nickname Snow, is forced to step down and run for her life, with the help of her best friend Alexander. With some help, she’ll have to find the courage to take back the kingdom from her stepmother.
Pros:
-Snow: She is a very relatable character. Despite that she both knows and is insecure over how weak she is, I found her quite likable as well as fairly realistic. Watching her character arc was really fun and she was my favorite part of the book.
-Her grandfather: He was a great addition to the original story, and I enjoyed his complex character at every step.
-The “seven dwarves”: Okay, I loved this element of the story, and Daria makes a great friend for Snow.
-The side characters: All the side characters have purpose in the story, which is nice. Plus they aren’t all nobility, which sometimes happens in fairy tale retellings. I enjoyed watching characters like the captain of the guard and a maid play a part.
Cons:
-Alida: My only problem with the villains in this story is that they never really had much screen time. Although they definitely keep the plot moving and throw challenges Snow’s way, I really wish we had seen more interaction with the villains.

I definitely recommend for anyone looking for a captivating fairy tale retelling with a great character arc. 5/5!

4.5 Stars. This series is such a delightful escape. Clean, engaging retellings of fairy tales. This one was one of my favorites so far. I really enjoyed watching Snow grow and change over the course of the book. The narrator does a fantastic job, by the way.

I love Snow White retellings and I really enjoyed this one!

Snow is a really great character and I really liked her! She’s also very relatable. She’s flawed and she struggles with that inner voice in us all that tells us we aren’t enough and weak. Seeing her journey was really inspiring and I was surprised to find myself in tears a few times. I found the parts with her grandfather and her struggle to forgive him really touching. That usually doesn’t happen in these books so just for that, my rating was higher!

Alex was such a great hero. His loyalty and love for Snow was soo sweet. And his respect for her!! Wow. He was amazing.

Their story together was just so sweet. I love best friends to lovers trope so this touched my heart. ❤️

The “dwarves”!! I absolutely adored them!! 🥰 They stole my heart!

I love the twists Melanie added to this one to make it her own, unique story as she always does. Not only is this a retelling of Snow White, but it’s also a story of forgiveness, conquering insecurity, and love. Loved it!
