I got this free for a review. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Who knew I would enjoy a story about misfit rabbits and other creatures in a dystopian world. I looked forward to grabbing my coffee and reading it in the mornings. I would have Alexa read it to me while I cleaned the kitchen. I recommend the book and look forward to reading the 2nd one.

Bunnies.

Would I have thought that I would have so enjoyed a book about bunnies? Not really.
I had just finished Animal Farm, and it looks like I need to read Watership down, as it's been so compared. I was unexpectedly surprised. The end wasn't so much an ending, as a beginning to the next chapter, which I do so enjoy. An odd thought to imagine in 300 years woodland creatures would talk, worship, and have societal rules. But nonetheless a very good read if you can get into that sort of thing. I did.

I don't know that war and bunnies go together but guess I'll give it a try!

I received a digital copy of this book for free as a Goodreads First Read.

This was a fun and engaging novel that felt a bit like a next-generation Redwall or Watership Down. Jones’ writing is smooth and enjoyable. He’s clearly put a lot of thought into the world he’s created and has done a great job fleshing it out in this first novel. I was immediately pulled into the story, wanting to keep reading. The historical background on the world is something that was particularly intriguing.

Overall, the characters were a little flat and the plot was fairly predictable. My one big suggestion would be to cut down a little on the description. For example, the celebration at the end had a bit too much detail and explanation.

But that doesn’t change the fact that I really enjoyed this novel. I found myself wanting to come back, keep reading, and find out how Jones worked everything out. Will definitely be picking up the next books in the series to see where the whole story and world goes!

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review and am grateful for that opportunity!

This book is Watership Down meets The Catholic Church in YA Dystopialand. Honestly, it all works so much better than it has any right to with such disparate feeling pieces. I found this an enjoyable and compelling read and absolutely snagged the sequel, which I'm excited to read.

I think because I was absolutely spoiled with reading Watership Down (repeatedly) that this just fell a little flat for me.

For fans of all of post apocalypse novels, particularly if you've always wondered what happens to the animals.

Part Watership Down, part Station Eleven, part The Postman, this was an enchanting read.

I alternated between liking it and being so confused. There was more characters than I could keep up with of all different animal types and that’s where it got difficult to keep things straight. The story itself was entertaining and it was fun to see how they fought back.
