3.5 stars. One of the biggest problems with this book for me was the ages of the characters as they seem much older than 15 years old.

This book just missed the mark for me for some reason. It was definitely darker than I thought it would be. It was so much more I wanted to see happen & hopefully in Book 2 it'll get to those things.

Firstly, read the triggers before you start the book because it deals with heavy themes right from the start.

I found this one a little hard to get into at first, not sure if it was the pacing or the events themselves but it just felt like we were going from scene to scene waiting for something to happen. That being said, when it did pick up it didn't stop and I read the second half in one sitting! The characters are so beautifully layered and complex, with a rich history that we learn as the story goes.

The scions, gods, magic, and history were all really interesting and the more ase Slone used the more excited I got, I'm excited to see what more developments we get in book 2!

The emotional turmoil this book gave me🥲The way it describes the anguish and turmoil the characters face.
I felt that some parts were predictable until the last 2-3chapter, left me star struck and dumbfounded. I really wanted to believe that the book was based on found family😖andddd I took stars off cause we don’t find out what happens to her friends…yet so we have to wait for the second book for that.
The exploration of choosing survival over humanity was a hard pill to swallow or in this case read. No choices made were easy and it definitely gets you thinking. Loved it
