Recently just finished the Netflix series of Vinland Saga (As of right now, there are only 2 seasons available to watch), and because the second season is so bizarre due to the extreme change in Thorfinn, going back to the beginning was really good for me. Its AMAZING

One of the best graphic novels I have ever read. I was a little weary to start because stories about vikings are hit or miss for me, especially if they’re written by men. But this story has so much to say about positive masculinity and how violence rarely solves anything. On top of the amazing themes, the story is phenomenal, the art is fantastic, and the action is exciting. This first book was a wonderful stand-alone story that also set up the future volumes incredibly well. The main character of the series still has much to learn, but his journey and themes are set up amazingly in this first volume. If you like manga, vikings, or fantasy/action stories, read Vinland Saga!

It’s so well paced and even when there’s parts being told out of chronological sequence there’s a specific reason they’re doing so. You really feel for Thorfinn and you see the imperfections of the adults around him so broadly. It’s a fascinating read. I’m glad watching the anime has brought me to read the manga.

This is a fantastic introduction to this series, it perfectly sets up the world and characters in an interesting, fast-paced way. It’s the first time in a while I’ve felt like 500 pages isn’t NEARLY enough. Read this if you like manga, Vikings, or both. I will be insistently recommending this to my friends like the book whore I am.
